Last year's roster & this year's roster

Post by iscore@tragus.org » Sun Sep 05, 2010 3:14 pm

In re-reading this, I think it may be more a question about the team site than about the handheld...

My son is playing on the same team as last year. I've edited the roster to remove the boys that have moved to other teams. Now when I pull up (on the team site) the game stats for last year's games I don't see those kids.

I was pondering this as I was replying to the "seasons" thread elsewhere. As we roll through multiple years, is there a way to have the team site show the right kids associated with the games they played even if they're not on the current roster? If I leave last year's kids on the roster won't I see them in this year's stats (and this year's kids in last year's stats)?

The Team Websites are really intended to work with a single team. If you want to treat this year's team and last year's team as the same team, you can do that, but you would have to choose between leaving all players on the roster to see both last year's and this year's player stats, or reduce the team to just this year's players and not see last year's stats. One possibility would be to just email yourself last year's data (it would all be on your device), and post the final stats somewhere for people to see if they would like. Then the "team website" can be used to show just this year's team.

If you do choose to combine last year and this year's team into one, you can also use Leagues to separate the games into separate stats. You can create a league called "Spring 2010" and "Fall 2010" for example, and be sure to assign the leagues to the Team (so it appears as a dropdown on the team website), and also to the appropriate gams (so stats are filtered when the League is selected). You will then be able to view stats on the Team Website for just Spring 2010, or just Fall 2010, or select "All" to view combined data.

Right. I've got piles of leagues to keep things separate. Once we get the new season rolling I'll disable the 2010 leagues so that they don't clutter up the team site. I've got all of those things elsewhere anyway. Just throw it on the pile of suggestions when all of the really important things are taken care of :-)

You guys rock. Thanks!

I have a similar issue. I would like to keep the same site so I can accumulate stats for multiple years for players that play season over season. The players that come and go from the roster should appear only for leagues to which they are attached. For instance, if Joey is attached to the 2009 season and not the 2010 season then when a team is attached to 2010 only Joey should not appear on the roster

I hope that makes sense. It would be nice to be able to go to one site and see cumulative stats over multiple seasons that a player was on that team.

The site will handle the players across multiple seasons. It just means the stats listing will have the combined rosters of the two seasons. The games will be filtered by the selected league (which could be a season), so players that did not play in the selected league will just show with zeroes in the stats.

just to clarify and reiterate what the team sites does today, today the team site is associated with the current (last exported) team roster on the handheld devcie. one team roster one wenb site. You can do some workarounds to evolve the team sesason to season. but as it stands now the service is not designed to be a multi team site. If your team adds or drops a player tournamenet to tournament or year to year, it works well. but not if the team is completely rebuilt.. the player spotlight is designed to track your son/daughter player from team to team season to season etc.
