Wrong team selected when scoring game
Wrong team selected when scoring game
I have a crazy quesiton......Last night, when I set up my game, I selected the Jays instead of the Rays as the opponent of my game. Is there anyway to correct this? I did not notice until i was reviewing the game this morning.
Thanks

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
How were the players right for the team in this situation? If it is a brand new team, you could just rename the Jays to the Rays. There is also an option to Merge teams in the Team Manager. You could then create a new Jays team.

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
I use quick roster for my opponents. I already played the Jays, and selected them. I should have created a new team "Rays". I am in the process of tranfering data from my old device to my new (using data sharing). I imported the Jays game, and was tyring to import the 2nd Jays game as a "new" team, but don't see anyway to do that....the system is too smart!!!! It knows it's the same team coming accross.
I still have the lineup from the game last night....I can re-score the game as a new game, but was hoping there might be a way to "correct" the opponent!

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
I know with using the Quick Roster function, you might wonder why I even care about the opponents....But I generally update the oppossing roster(s) after the games are played. We will play both of these teams again, so I was wanting to get the data updated correctly.
Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
With two devices and data shareing. the following should work w/o rescoring.
( have not testeded it - proceed at your own risk)
1. Export both units as a just in case backup, if does not work can always import back and be in same place...
2. Assuming the real jays game is on both devices, and is 100% the same.
3. delete the first/real jays game and the real jays team on the unit, that does NOT have your should-be rays game. ( call this unit 2)
4, data share from unit 1 to unit 2, the should-be rays game. Unit 1 should recognize as a new team. Now on unit 2 rename the jays team in team manager and game manager to rays
5 data share from unit 1 to unit 2 the original correct jays game, unit 2 should recognize, as a new team and new game...
Let us know if that works...

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
Thanks for the advice. Ironically, I tried something similar already....
1. I exported ONLY the s/be Rays game (under the Blue Jays) team name. NOTE: The "original" Blue Jays game does not exist on new device.
2. I renamed the Blue Jays team on the "new" device to Rays.
3. When I try to data share the s/be Jays game, the "new" unit makes a logical connection to the Rays team (it shows the Blue Jays team with an arrow to the Rays....showing the logical connection).
Should I start with a clean slate on the "new" unit, and delete the Rays team again, or will the new unit always recognize the Blue Jays/Rays are the same (becuase of a team identifier in the database)?
Any other ideas?

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
Yep, It seems it has a underlying identifier... I just tested trying to change name on second unit but it did not work, it recognized it as the same team despite the name change... Hmmm.
I would have thought you could tap on a check in the data mapping before verifying to override the one it found. But did not work that way on iPad.... Will test iPhone later..
Will think on thus one... For now stumped.. Perhaps ftm will have a solve...

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
The data sharing is likely going to always recognize the team because of the underlying "unique id" that iScore creates for each team.
One thing you might be able to try (again, make sure you have a backup), would be to create a new team called "Rays" (you may want to call it "Rays2" for now just to distinguish it), then use team merge with this new team on the Left side, and the incorrectly scored "Rays" game on the right. This will effectively set the Rays team to a new underlying unique identifier. Then you can try data sharing that team back to the other device, and you should be able to map it to the Rays.
Something you will NOT be able to do would be if the players you scored with were actually tied to "Jays" data, then the players are really Jays players, and you can not split that information. To make each player be a new unique player, you would have to do something similar to the above for each individual player (i.e. create a new player, and merge the "Player X" player into the newly created player).
NOTE: Please do not try doing this unless you are very comfortable with what is being described and understand what is being said... this note is really for others that may be reading this and think this suggestion might apply to their situation... chances are it does not because this is a very unique case.
Anyway, let us know if you have further questions about what we are describing or the results if you try it out.

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
Okay....I have messed with this several ways.....learned some things that work, and some that don't!!!!
First, Creating a new team on the "new" device (or receiving device) does not help, because even when I merge the Rays to the new Rays II, it retains the team identifier in the database. Thus, when the Jays team is transfered, the database matches the Jays and Rays (or in this case, Rays II).
HOWEVER, I created a "new" Blue Jays team on my old device, the "Jays", and merged the old Blue Jays to the NEW Jays, and that seemed to create a new team ID, so when the games transfer, my receiving device DOES recognize the Jays as a NEW team.
Problem solved....right????
Almost.
Because I was in the process of "renaming" players on the Rays (which was a combined roster with the Rays), it seems I also have player merges that have occured. When I transfered the new Jays team to the receiving device, while it tells me the Jays is a new team, the players are all "existing" players. Looks like I will need to create new Jays players, and try to merge them with the existing players on the "old" Jays roster....and I think that will work!!!!
So.....Looks like your suggestion above in the post will work....I think I was processing the "new" players/team on the wrong device.
Thanks for the assistance, and I'll update this post once I finalize the move.
By the way.....I'm more impressed now with this application than I was before!!!! The inner workings of this application are very sound.

Re: Wrong team selected when scoring game
FINAL UPDATE.....
I created 12 new players for the Jays, added them to the Jays roster, and deleted the "original" 12 Jays players. I exported the game from the original device, and "data shared" it to my new device. The Jays came accross as a new team, with a new roster.
Once the solution was identified, really was rather simple.
On a side note, One suggestion for an enhancement in a future release.....and OhioTex made reference to the same. It would be nice to have an override on the "verify" screen when you are doing a data share to "break" the auto connection between teams/players. That way, if you new two teams were not the same, and the unit was tyring to match them, you could manually break the connection.
Obviously you can't idiot proof your product, and me selecting the wrong team created the problem I experienced, but you never know when that override feature may come in handy.
