Cannot Change Batters

Post by pcdirector » Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:34 am

Have been previously able to change player at bat via double tap and select from popup list.

Two enhancements ago, this stopped working. I can no longer change a player at bat from the field screen.

Changing them momentarily in the lineup causes other stat problems later in the game.

Fix available?

Here is the answer I posted to your question when you posted it in the enhancements forum:

It's working fine for me on the current version for both iPad and iPhone. I believe you must have a player in your game starting lineup who has batting = no.

FTM also confirmed this in a follow-up post.

thank you!

so if i understood you correctly, my only option to switch batters is if the batter has NOT batted before in the game?

If I have a batting out of order situation, there is no way to reflect the out-of-order-batter with his correct statistics?

Yes. But I believe a work-around for this problem would be to go back to the pitch-by-pitch screen, select the first pitch, edit the starting line-up and add a dummy player to the game roster which is set to batting = no. Then, you can go back into the game (or in the pitch-by-pitch where the out-of-order batting occurred) and use substitutions to handle the batting out-of-order situation and associated statistics.

First, the correct way to make an offensive (batter) substitutions is by tapping the batter icon.... Pcdirector..are you saying when you tap the batter icon the offensive substitution screen does not come up?

Second, using misc > starting line up, is not the way to make a substitution, it is the way to correct starting line up errors/ omissions.

Third, you implied you may have encountered a batting out of order situation and have trouble scoring it...If so describe that and we can help... Some are easy some hard/messy/ impossible

There is an out button for when batting out of order is caught..
If a batting out of order is not caught and a batter is skipped, use misc > skip batter feature.
If a batter bats twice. ( out of order not caught). Frankly, The current software does not handle well - it is just a mess. (There is not a misc rebat same batter option)..you have to get creative... If you have not batted through line up once then you could insert an extra batter and skip later...but it is messy. If you have batted around once and then you can't add a new batter. Line up is locked. Have to use undo..

I just got this question tonight and didn't know how to answer it.

Let say Player 1 is the correct, current batter. He gets a single. Player 3 comes up to bat. Do we immediately go to Misc -> Skip Batter (skipping Player 2) in able to score the correct batter? If he get's caught being out of order, how do we mark Player 2 as out? I'm guessing Undo to skip Player 2 and mark as out.

If I choose Skip Batter, iScore asks me if I count skipping this batter as an out. I have to put no, because I can't assume the other team will catch the mistake or not.

Now if Player 3 bats without protest, then Batter 2 comes up to bat and gets caught. The rule states that this becomes the new batting order (if I remember right). How do we switch the batters to make the new order?

In my test game with Player 3 on base, I found that switching the batting order for Players 2 and 3 (Misc -> Show Starting Lineup) only switches the players giving Player 3's stats to Player 2 and leaving Player 4 up to bat. How then do I have Player 2 (the one that was skipped) become the current batter if this is now the new batting order?

Sorry, you may need to read this a couple of times to get it. I know I did, and I wrote it. :D

Cheers,
Jason

The key is not to use Misc->Show Starting Lineup. You should only make a change here if the *Starting Lineup* is wrong. You should use the Substitution screen if the batting order changes as per your scenario - make an offensive change, and swap the two players in the batting order. This will keep all the stats correct.

Jason - there is actually a "batting out of turn" button on the OUT page.
(on page two of outs (i think) in iphone, on page 1 in outs on ipad, not sure on android).

It is a bit tricky to score in real life because of when the out of order gets called, . but careful attention and it works.

Ok, I think I get the issue now. jcbeckman, you absolutely correct, but here is the problem. When a team bats all players, which is typical of rec ball teams, the offensive substitution screen does not appear like it does when all players don't bat. In fact, it comes up just like the defensive substitution screen. I get the principle of it all, but am thinking that we need some way of swapping the batters even if all players are hitting.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to make this work?

Try adding a placeholder "dummy" player to the roster and set them to batting NO so you have a player who isn't batting.
