New to IScore and need help

Post by diamondkingdad » Tue Jun 01, 2010 8:16 am

I keep score of my son's games for the team. I bought this app and use it on his itouch. I love it, and I am in the market for an ipad for myself. Couple of questions:

1. How do I start a team website so the other parents, coaches and kids can see the past games?

2. When I get my ipad, will I be able to move the previous games from the itouch to the ipad?

Please keep in mind that I am a 40 yo dad, who grew up pre-computer age, so I have limited abilities in this area--though I am a wiz with an abacus and slide-rule!

Welcome to the board.

You can create the team website via your iScore admin site. I don't recall all the steps but look under options from your iScore front page then touch Admin. Check out the website gallery page at the top of the website forum there are a lot of good ideas. However, no changes are necessary as the info auto fills. I would recommend password protect on the roster and stats links.

Trading info from your iTouch to iPad is easy to do via the same admin site noted above. Touch options, data sharing, then pick the games/info you wish to download to your device.

You can also create a Team Website from the device itself by going to Team Manager, selecting the team you want to create a team website for, and click the "Team Website" option from there. It will step you through creating one from there.
Check out the new iScore Baseball documentation page!
Includes videos and user manual.

Another note on the data sharing ...

As danmcc said, you can easily move between the iPhone and the iPad for scoring games, and then use data sharing to import the game data to the other device after the fact. However, you'll have to decide which one is your primary device for the purposes of posting to your team web site.

I keep my iPhone as my primary device. That device ID is associated with the team web site. At the end of each game, all data exported from my iPhone post to the team web site. If I've used the iPad to score the game, I must use data sharing on the iPhone, and import the iPad-created data so that it will post to the team web site.

If you start your web site with one device and then decide to make another device your primary, you must contact FTM Support to ask them to change the associated device ID. They're very responsive about doing that.

I'm still torn between the devices. The iPad has several advantages:

- Full line-up appears at all times so you don't have to fumble around to see who the next 3 batters are
- Player names appear on the field instead of just numbers
- You can record all pitches and base-running plays without having to flick between screens
- You see the pitch-by-pitch history while you're scoring (this is great whenever you have to recount the count to the other coach or -- worse -- the ump)
- The battery life is GREAT!

On the other hand, the iPad is bigger, and you can't just slip it in your pocket if you have to grab a bat, helmet, or water bottle, or stop a nose-bleed.

Now some enterprising Apple accessories supplier needs to create an iPad clipboard case that hangs from the fence.
