B/R thrown out at Second
B/R thrown out at Second
Situation: Runner hits a clean single to left field then gets thrown out streching it into a double 7-4. How doesthis get entered in iScore? I cant seem to credit the hit and get the out too. Thanks.

Here is the sequence:
In play, single, touch ball location. It asks what happened to the runner after he reached first. Out, second, tag out, touch fielders.

Re: B/R thrown out at Second
Ok, now I am confused. I thought that one of the definitions of "on the throw" is "A batter who safely reaches first base but is tagged out attempting to reach a subsequent base on the same play is credited with a hit for the number of bases he safely reached, but is said to be out on the throw."
Re: B/R thrown out at Second
in iscore "on the throw" is a safe option. not an out option..
e.g runner at first goes to second when fielder tries to make a play at 3rd or home
sure..commonly we say 'thrown out at 2nd'.. but technically in scoreing terms (and in iScore entry) that out is scored as "tagged out" or "force out", or "pick off" or "caught stealing" etc. more descriptive..

Re: B/R thrown out at Second
'On the Throw' is not really an official scoring term. In iScore it is used to designate a runner who reaches a base safely because the defense chose to throw the ball to another base. In normal scoring terminology, this would be a Fielder's Choice, but this would probably get confusing. iScore gives the user options on how to call the out after a batter reaches a base safely and gets out afterwards. 'Tag Out' is just a good way of explaining what happened. The 'on the throw' portion of the out is assumed by the selection of the fielders who handled the ball (in this case 7-4 or 7 throws to 4).
This is needed for the occasion when there is no throw such as you see in Little League games. Batter hits a grounder for a base hit and a fielder picks it up. Batter rounds first and heads to second and fielder runs towards runner. If the fielder gets him out, there is no 'on the throw'; just a fielder designation (i.e. 6).

Re: B/R thrown out at Second
OK, yes, now I understand. Does iScore have a glossary? I used to keep score 20 years ago and am having a hard time with the learning curve. For example, what is the difference between "held up" and "ball out of play?"
Re: B/R thrown out at Second
I haven't seen a glossary myself. I just kinda worked out what I could.
Ball out of play is for when a fielder throws the ball into the dugout or something like that. The runner would be awarded bases by the ump. For example, a batter hits a grounder to SS and the SS throws the ball over 1B into the dugout. You would score a single or an error depending on the situation. Then iScore would ask about what happened to the batter who is now at first. You would press 'Second' and 'Ball Out of Play'.
Held up is what a batter or runner does instead of running.
They hold up at the base and don't advance to the next base.

There is not a glossary per se, but there are training documents available at http://iscorecentral.com/baseball/training.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (the Reading the Scorebook and User Guide there are good references as well as the videos).
