Batting Status - what do the options mean?

Post by AdamB5000 » Fri May 28, 2010 6:26 am

When I set up a player I see a batting option of No, Yes, DP and Flex. I'm fairly new to this so I want to understand these options before I mess up something at the ball park.

I assumed I'd set everyone to yes, unless it's a league with a DH, then the pitcher is No. But, when running a mock game a had ten position players entered, all with 'Yes' for Batting. I eventually saw that 10 different batters had a plate appearance in a single inning!

So I then thought maybe 'Yes' is for the people that will be batting to begin the game. Is this correct? I also don't know what DP or Flex means.

Can someone elaborate? I viewed both tutorials (put together very well, btw), but there was no explanation of the batting options.

Yes means batting, so if your team is playing continuous lineup then the entire roster is yes. If continuous then for hitters that are not fielding they are out.
Otherwise if you have a 11 man roster with 9 batting then the other 2 are no (batting) and out fielding.
DP (designated player) and flex are softball terms that I am not familiar with their use.

DP and FLEX are very specific terms to softball, (similar but more complex, than MLB DH). If you are not playing softball, you can ignore them. if you are playing softball, if your league and coach take advantage of them, then iScore can handle.
