Pitch Velocity
Pitch Velocity
How is pitch velocity utilized in iScore reports/output? Once the velocity is indicated for each pitch in the pitch location screen, I cannot see where it shows up again anywhere else in the stats.

Re: Pitch Velocity
We record the information, but do not currently have a good way to present it in a report. If you have any ideas, we would love to hear it. We have thought about just showing it on the pitch by pitch listing, but are not sure how useful that is. If you are collecting the information, don't stop because we WILL find a way to make good use of it.

Re: Pitch Velocity
What about breaking the pitch charts down by inning so they will remain less cluttered, then you can add the velocity number inside the circle representing the pitch location?

Re: Pitch Velocity
We don't think showing the speed inside the circles will work ... there is just too much overlap. Even breaking it down by inning, it is not unusual to have 20 or 30 pitches in an inning... especially at the youth levels.

Presentation suggestions
on hand held
if collected, sounds like it is valued. Thus Seems like it should be included in detailed pitch-by-pitch (also 'editable' as speed, location, and type would not change outcome)
For those that do not collect, should not confuse nor add to the length of pitch by pitch reporting, for those that do take the time to enter pitch by pitch, yes this sounds like it will make for much more lengthy pitch by pitch, but I assume if they take time to collect it they value it and would like to be able to edit it too.
on email
for this and other raw data, seems like it should be available in simple tabs/tables to start with, once raw data is in excel, folks can sort, slice and dice etc. buying time before 'analytics' needs to be added functionality
my 2 cents

Re: Pitch Velocity
If we add to pitch by pitch, it would not take up more space.. we would likely overlay it right below the "who is on base" graphic.

Re: Pitch Velocity
To me it is not important to display the velocity of each pitch. Rather, I am interested in knowing the range of velocity for each type of pitch thrown in the game. For example, the app can keep track of the range of fastball - 70-72mph; change-up - 60-62mph; curveball - 58-60 mph, etc.
One simple way of displaying this data is, as you indicated, in the pitch-by-pitch listing. The app can display the range of velocity for each pitch type as the game is being scored. Another place is to display this same data in the final Team Pitching Statistics/output.
Thanks for the consideration.

Re: Pitch Velocity
I think a summary will be gd, high, low and avg, and put colors in the type of pitch so we know if he pitches outside, inside etc,
Re: Pitch Velocity
I told them almost a year ago that the pitch velocity inside the circle with specific colors for each pitch will work perfect
Re: Pitch Velocity
It is crazy not to be able to report on pitch speeds if the user takes the time to enter them. The pitch location charts should be able to be broken down by inning and by at bat. If you break it down by at bat you could easily show the velocity inside the circle or off to the side. You should also have the average, high and low speed for every type of pitch thrown on the game summary report. My thoughts.
