For the mac - download the file and change the extension to straight xml... this then automatically opened the file using OpenOffice - without it prompting. I actually think on a PC, the file would open with excel if it was installed with the xml extension.

Thanks,

gDub...

 great tip gdub00

I just verified that works on a PC too..

... on a PC.... Change filename from "teamstats.xls" to "teamstats.xml" and open with "scalc" (open office spreadsheet application). viola

you can download openoffice at openoffice.org. It is an open source version of MS Office that is very proven and very user friendly for folks familiar with MS Office.

I had thought of Open Office the other day when i made my post and tried to open it and was not able (as an xls file) even looked for an extension, but this makes more sense. THANKS gdubb00.

fyi... the user that emailed us with not being able to open the data had an Apostrophe (') in his team name, and that was causing the Excel spreadsheet to not be properly formatted.

We will fix this in a future release, but for now, make sure your team names don't have apostrophes if you want to use the Excel option.

I was having a similar problem in that I cannot open the teamstats.xls with either Office 2008 on the Mac Side or Office 2007 on the PC side.

I was getting error in workbook settings.

But after looking at the log and seeing the below I redid the export after removing the "/" from my team name and it work.

so I guess there are other "special" characters that you cannot use.

htmlerr.log......

XML ERROR in ExcelWorkbook description
REASON: Bad Value
FILE: teamstats.xls
GROUP: Workbook
TAG: Worksheet
ATTRIB: Name
VALUE: Fielding-Hotshots Red 16/18U
