It was great to get home, email the stats to myself, check, then forward to the head coach. Really quick and since we play saturday and sunday he would tweak sunday's lineup based on saturdays stats.

With some practice you also could keep both and save yourself some time when you get home.
Keeping score on paper and then using software to rescore the game is that i currently do. That's not that big of a deal, i've been doing that for years. Also, i do understand about emailing myself the game stats; however, they exist individually, not integrated/imported into a statistical software for softball (something like TurboStats, not what i'm using).

Thanks for all the comments, this is is an interesting discussion!

Did you know you can get aggregated stats by organizing your games into "leagues"? Then you email the stats from the Team Manager section instead of the Game Manager.

No, I didn't. Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

How I manage the season for my son's team is to have a main league "travel ball 2010" then also have a league for each weekend played. When you set up your game have the game in both leagues. When the games are over, if you want weekend stats only for team or individual then turn off all other leagues then go back to the team manager or player manager and click on stats. If you want cumulative stats for the season turn on the 2010 league for stat generation. If for instance you want to see stats for a particular month then you turn on the league for that months tournaments and turn off all other leagues. League manager is a powerful tool in this app.

Hope this helps.

Wow, that's great that you can do both during a game! I can't see myself doing that; between the head coach asking me questions and just watching the game, no time. Plus, i'd have to be a magician. Most of the time i'm standing and the scorebook is quite big (see http://baseballbythenumbers.com/softball_scorebook.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), so i have the scorebook in one hand and a pencil in the other!

I like your idea, though, wish i could do it.

With experience it got fairly easy and I learned to anticipate the head coaches questions for defensive positioning and such so I just told him before he asked. Since it was the official scorebook the paper took precedence and Iscore came second. Sometimes I would need to catch up Iscore between innings. But in the end with the ability to just email complete stats was well worth the effort.
