Coach Pitch After Consecutive Base on Balls

Post by jefferson.crain » Fri Mar 26, 2010 9:40 am

My little league has a rule that the coach pitches to a batter up to 5 pitches after the real pitcher follows up a walked batter with 4 balls. We also have to keep the pitch count for the real pitcher. If I just record 3 balls from the pitcher and then act like the batter then put the ball into play as a result of the coach pitching, I will be at least 1 ball off. Worse, the coach can strike out his own player, and I would like to record this as a "K" out, but the real pitcher could have thrown less than 0 strikes.
I welcome ideas, but this may require an enhancement. I don't see a notes field but that could be used to solve my problem.

Yes, you can enter notes for the pitches. In the area above the field (where it shows batter and pitcher info), just "flick" to the left, and it will show a box score. Flick one more time, and there is a button to enter notes. You can enter notes at any time.

Some people have made the "coach" a player on the team to substitute when the coach comes in to pitch to track coach pitches separate from player pitches. Since 4 balls is a walk, it does not solve that issue, but gets you closer. You can always switch back to the player for the last coach pitch.

We have coach pitch support on our list for future enhancements, and will get to it as soon as we can.

Thank you.

Similar question - my son's little league rule is if the pitcher throws 4 pitches and all are balls, there is no walk. A coach must come in to pitch to the batter until there is a hit or strikeout. How should I score that?

We would suggest just scoring three balls, then scoring the result of the play after that (strikeout or hit). You could probably make it more complicated than that if you would like (subbing in the coach as a pitcher), but there is probably not a lot of value in doing that.
