This was for my son's USSSA team. In a tournament over the weekend my son bunted safely in play, but was called out due to having his foot outside of the batter's box. In fact he may have been touching home plate. I scored it as a successful bunt but out due to leaving the base path. This counted it as a hit, which i'm sure it probably shouldn't have been. I'm unable to change the "Pitch by Pitch" entry from Safe to Out, however.
It sounds like you're on top of it, as far as a fix is concerned.

Re: Hit ball out of Batter's Box
It sounds like you marked him out in some other way? If so, you can still nullify the hit by changing the Safe at First to safe by error or safe by fielders choice. (Even though he was not safe, this will at least get his batting stats corrected and not give him the hit.)

That's what I'll do. Thanks for the input! I love this program!!

Re: Hit ball out of Batter's Box
Tex, I would like to clarify that in baseball and softball, the lines are IN. So one foot must be completely outside the batter's box for him to be considered out. The only exception to this is when stepping on home plate, because naturally, your foot will be on the line and on the plate at the same time if your foot is still pointed towards a dugout.OhioTex wrote:thanks, sorry for the manual type...
so i think we can agree, batter out, b/c he hit the ball while out of the box, even while bunting is a legitimate "out call".
What is interesting to note is the touching home plate language, it is different than MLB. (not sure about college). MLB home plate is nothing special, It was one of those bar bet myths in the past, out because step on the plate, not true, as long as heal of foot on line foot can be on home plate in MLB.. (not so now in high school),
The rule in question is correct, but misleading. You can have your foot outside the box on an attempt, but if you make contact with the ball with a foot out of the batter's box, Immediate Dead Ball, Batter out, all runners return to the base they were on at the time of the pitch.
