Showcase Scoring
Our team is at the age where they are attending showcases with modified rules. Some of the biggest modifications include allowing batters to make plate appearances out of order. Sometimes a batter can hit three times in a row (for example) if a college coach requests it. Same with changing baserunners. How can my scorekeeper make these changes on the fly in the middle of a game without getting everything messed up for the rest of the game?
Re: Showcase Scoring
There is no good way to do this as iscore is intended to be a scorekeeping app and must adhere to certain rules. Stats are mainly meaningless from these types of games anyways. What I have done in the past is create various subs called xtra batter1, 2, 3 etc. When a player gets multiple bats in a row I add in the xtra batter to the line up if it's the first time through or else sub them in. The next time through the line up can be a mess but you can skip xtra batters in line-up. If the game gets really messy I usually end up deleting the game. The more they mess with the "rules" of the game, the less meaning those stats will have anyway.

Re: Showcase Scoring
I respectfully disagree and I'm sure our players and parents would too (as to your remark about Stats being meaningless).team mom wrote:There is no good way to do this as iscore is intended to be a scorekeeping app and must adhere to certain rules. Please consider this a formal request for IScore to come up with a solution. Thank you!
Re: Showcase Scoring
I respectively am going to agree with team mom realizing I'm just putting in my two cents and we may all have to agree to disagree. I can appreciate your frustration. I tried to keep team stats for my daughter's travel softball team a few years back during "showcase" tournaments and quickly gave up. Fortunately for me, no one on our team seemed to mind either. If the parents and players care so much about their "individual" stats during those "showcase" games, then they could write their own down. That's what I did for my daughter. Not that anyone but me ever looked at it. I suppose if the coach wants some record of the games you could resort back to paper. I look back on those tournaments thinking it was just nice for me to have a chance to be able to watch the girls simply play. I could do that now too, but keeping score of my daughter's college games on iscore means I am not yelling at the umpiring too much.
And I still like running into a play where I have to think a little bit on how to score it correctly.

Re: Showcase Scoring
fyi... in the past year we added the Misc -> Adjust Score which actually allows you to set the batter to anyone you want... even out of order. The scorecard will be a mess, but the stats will be kept.
However, we would tend to side with team mom on stats related to Showcase events. When you have a batter strike out, then say wait, let's have him bat again, whatever he does on the second at bat is not the same as the batter waiting until he would be up in the order again. By staying at bat longer, he now has the unfair advantage of having seen more pitches from the pitcher at that point in the game, the situation is not changing as it would through normal at bats (at bats late in the game could be more critical to the outcome), etc.
Showcases have their purpose - you want to show the player's abilities to scouts, recruiters, etc. But the statistics are really most relevant in real game situations, and a showcase event is more of a subjective evaluation of players and a chance to "look" at the player, not see their stats (or they would not be batting out of order / doing things outside of the rules).
That being said, stats will be kept as noted if you use the Misc -> Adjust Score option and change who the batter is.

Re: Showcase Scoring
So what do you need to do in a showcase when the inning starts with runners already placed on base at the start of the inning?

Re: Showcase Scoring
Tap Misc -> Tie Breaker and it allows you to put runners on base... yet another reason why stats are silly in showcase events. Making up contrived situations does not bring same mental state to the pitchers or batters. But iScore will track the stats based on the situations you create as best it can.
