Ipad vs. Iphone vs. Kindle Fire

Post by kpalmer » Fri Jan 02, 2015 4:26 pm

I have tried searching the forums for this topic and didn't find enough information to make my decision so forgive me if this is a duplicate post and please kindly forward me to the current post.

I have a Kindle Fire 7" tablet, my wife has an IPad Mini, and I currently have an Iphone 5. I was wondering which device I should use iScore on? I would love to use the Kindle Fire but I keep reading that the android version is not quite as good as the ios version. I don't want to use my wife's IPad, but if I have to I will. I really want todo pitch-by-pitch logging during my games (the main reason I want to use iScore), so I think it will be too hard on the iphone 5 to do that from what I have read.

I will consider getting a different device if there is something that is obviously superior, such as iphone 6, or another iPad.

Thanks in advance for your help.

All devices work essentially the same way. The differences will have to do with the screen sizes and what can be shown on a single screen. On smaller devices (phones and smaller Android tablets), sometimes you will have to drill down to see things that are available on the main scoring screen of iPads and full size Android tablets.

I am an iOs user (other moderators on here.. cough cough mark.. use Andorid.. but not Kindle).

you want to make sure you get a screen large enough to run the "tablet version". not just bigger screen phone version.

the differences between Android and iOs tablet versions, are generally minor..

but the Kindle Fire gets lots of posts for 'incompatibility'. and frankly, i would avoid.

here is a forum post by support from a while back (not sure if amazon has changed) .. but if you go with Fire.. be careful.

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7181&p=32560&hilit=fire#p32560

search for Fire in this forum will find more/other concerns.. iPad Mini however

iOS May be expensive, but iScore runs well on all IPads..

Mark or support may weigh in on good android tablets.

Actually, I use iPad as my primary device. I was also running on Galaxy s4 android on my phone. However I just went back to iPhone. I always prefer iPad over anything else.

I might try the iPhone this year (6 plus), but since it still runs only the phone version I don't think it will be my primary device.

Bottom line, agree with OT, you can't beat the iPad.

I have a 7'' Kindle fire that appear to work - for the trial game I've done.
It seems to meet my needs, except I really want to track my hitters' decisions about which pitches to swing at, in various counts. I want pitch spray charts per hitter, with 2 strikes and less than two strikes, with swing/no_swing indicators.
My apparent options:
1 get a parent to manually track the pitch locations and hitter decisions
2 subscribe to edgeHQ for $199
3 buy an ipad mini for $230 and get the TruMedia add-on for $??
4 export iscore data and figure out how to extract the information myself. I have some skills here, but don't want to spend days reverse engineering something.
5 something else

I'm looking for thoughts on the most promising path.
#3 seems tough to scope out, because the TruMedia info I've found is nearly worthless. I can't really tell if it's a subscription, or something else.

Tru Media is $9.99/month or 6 months for $49.99 or $89.99/year.

The EdgeHQ and TruMedia options are the best for the type of analytics you are asking for... that is what both specialize in.
