Dealing with players from season to season

Post by mt32839 » Sun Sep 07, 2014 9:43 pm

I'm getting ready to start scoring the fall season for my son's high school varsity team. I've set up a new league for this 'Team Name - Fall 2014' season, and have assigned his team and the other teams they will play (all these teams were initially setup during this past spring season) to this league. I know how to properly assign the upcoming games to my 'Team Name - Fall 2014' league. So I'm almost there.

My question at this point is, how do I alter my team rosters 'properly' from season to season to reflect the correct group of players? Obviously, this impacts not only my son's team roster, but also, every team roster they will play.

As I see it, these are the issues I need to address...

- 1 - Graduated seniors and transfer students who need to be eliminated from the Fall 2014 team rosters.
- 2 - Players who played last spring, but are playing football during the fall, but will be back on the roster this coming spring.
- 3 - New players to add to the roster.

Issue # 3, or adding players to the roster is a no brainer. However, I'm unsure how to handle issues #1 and #2 so I don't inadvertently delete information I'd like to keep. I don't wish to lose the information of any player I've previously scored, but I don't want players who are not a part of the current roster reflected. I see an 'Active' / 'Inactive' option in the Team/Roster setup screen, but am unsure whether this is something I need to use or not.

Can you advise how I should handle these roster changes (i.e. player eliminations from 'current' team rosters).

I forgot to include one other issue in my original post. Is there a way to 'batch' assign players to a particular league, or a group of teams to a particular league, as opposed to having to assign them one at a time?

You can make players Inactive on a team roster. That is typically how you would handle using the same team from season to season. Inactive players will not be included in the lineup when new games are created.

If you are using an iOS device, you can select League Manager, select the League, and there is an option to just put check marks next to the players that are in the selected league. We will be adding this functionality to Android devices in a future update as well.

Upon further exploring while waiting for your reply, I found that one can also apparently go into Team Manager, select our team, then select the "New Season" button, input a name for the new season, then check all the player names that will not be participating in the new season. This basically creates a new League 'and' inactivates all players checked off in the prior process. Same thing I did manually, just with fewer steps.

I am running iScore on an iPad Mini and followed your instructions. Although it allowed me to check off the 'Teams' to be associated with the league, it did not list any players to add to the league. I have all leagues turned on, so I'm a bit perplexed why this didn't work as you noted above. It appears I'll need to do it a player at a time.

On an iPad, make sure you have the ALL league turned ON in League Manager, select the league you want to add players to, then select the "Players" tab at the top and it will let you add check marks next to the player(s) you want to be visible in the selected league.
