Designated Hitter

Post by rockportjack » Sat Mar 15, 2014 7:12 pm

When I fill out a lineup that includes a DH, how do I show the player for whom the DH is hitting. Often it's the pitcher, but not always.

For the player the DH is hitting for, just set that player's Batting = NO, and put them in a defensive position. This lets iScore know they are not batting, but they are playing on defense.

Your suggested procedure for DH is exactly what I have been doing. But the player for whom the DH hits does not show on the scoring screen. That would be a nice feature. Thanks for the response.

The player who is playing on defense only will be seen at whatever position they are assigned to when the team is in the field. They will not be seen in the batting lineup because they do not bat.

OK, I get it. It's a batting only lineup on the scoring screen. But when the manager fills out his (batting / fielding) lineup slip form, the player for whom the DH hits is shown opposite the DH. A similar format on the scoring screen would be nice, but maybe space is not sufficient....unless the non hitting player is shown at the bottom of the hitting lineup, with an appropriate symbol by his name. Even on the Lineup screen when I put the players from the Roster in proper batting order and designate "Hitting Yes/No" it is not obvious who is the fielder for whom the DH is hitting. This is because there are several players marked as playing the same position in the roster, i.e. there are several pitchers, several catchers, etc. on the roster. You just have to remember for whom the DH hits. Maybe that's not too much to ask, even for an old guy like me. But when I review a game after some days or weeks I have to figure it out by checking the fielding screen, and jumping back and forth between screens. Your major competitor shows the player for whom the DH hits on one screen. I like iScore best, however. I still think it would be better to show the DH'd player on the hitting lineup screen, just as the pitcher is shown on that screen. Surely it could be done. And I think it would be a big improvement. Sorry for the toom. Cheers,

I thought I had replied

I stole a page from softball ... What I do is tag the DHed player as a flex player .

Although not a baseball term, it gets the job done for identifying them in the line up

Hey, sounds like a good work-around. I'll give it a try in tomorrow's game. Thanks, rockportjack
PS: I probably should have posted this under "scoring issues" instead of iPad forum. I'm learning.

In the game I scored last week, I tried labeling the DH'd fielder "Flex" in the Batting square. That player still does not show up in the Lineup on the scoring screen. But at least it is obvious who that fielder is when reviewing "Misc, Show Starting Lineup". That helps. Thanks.
