How to clean up batting order in score card after the fact
How to clean up batting order in score card after the fact
My son's high school team does not post line ups before games (a practice which I assume is common). Since iScore requires that batters be assigned before a game can be scored, and it is very disruptive to change the number of batters while scoring a game, I am forced to create a starting lineup with 9 batters which is never correct. I then make offensive substitutions as the batters come up to bat. The problem with this is that the lineup on the score card gets very messy with multiple players listed in some batting slots for the first inning. In a recent game for example the score card shows 6 batters in the 7 hole during the 1st inning. I wish I could attach a file showing this issue but can't seem to find a way to attach to a post.
If I edit the starting lineup after the game is complete, to reflect the true starting lineup, the play-by-play and score card do not get updated to remove unnecessary substitutions, so the score card is still a mess. What is the proper procedure to fix this problem to show the correct starting lineup on the score card without any extraneous substitutions?
I would suggest that a fix for this problem would be to allow a game to start without batters identified. Perhaps the user could indicate how many batters are in the lineup (in this case I think it will always be 9 batters as I've never seen a high school coach bat more than that) but not assign players to the slots. Then as the game progresses the user can fill in the batting order as the players come up to the plate, or enter the on deck circle. If a batter is not assigned as a batting position comes up to bat, iScore should pop up the offensive substitution window with a nice little reminder that a batter needs to be assigned.

Re: How to clean up batting order in score card after the fact
You only need to have one batter identified to start the game. You can use Misc -> Show Starting Lineup, and make adjustments as the game goes on. You can also go ahead and put 9 batters if you know the players that are in the game and just not the order. Then use Misc -> Show Starting Lineup and rearrange as you see who is in the on deck circle.

Yes, this is the procedure I currently use, but as I mentioned that makes the lineup in the scorecard very messy as I score the first time through the batting order. How do I make iScore clean up the score card using the final batting order entered after the game, and remove all extraneous substitutions?FTMSupport wrote: You can also go ahead and put 9 batters if you know the players that are in the game and just not the order. If you use Misc -> Show Starting Lineup to modify the batting order, the scorecard would not show those adjustments. That method changes the actual starting lineup. If you are using offensive substitutions (which you DO want to use for actual substitutions, but not for setting the starting lineup), then you would see them all on the scorecard.

Re: How to clean up batting order in score card after the fact
Ok, what I understand that to mean is that there is NO METHOD to clean up the mess in the scorecard created by the fact that iScore won't work without batters assigned. Is that correct?FTMSupport wrote:If you use Misc -> Show Starting Lineup to modify the batting order, the scorecard would not show those adjustments. That method changes the actual starting lineup. If so then I urge you to please add the ability to score games with a dynamic batting order as described in my related post in the enhancement request forum.

Re: How to clean up batting order in score card after the fact
I'm not sure I understand the issue you are having or what you are doing. iScore works quite well when you don't know the batting order. Let's say you have a team with 26 players on the roster named A-Z. Since you mentioned high school, let's also say that you assume they will be batting no more than 10 batters. You don't know which 10. You can just set players A to I as batting in the starting lineup. It doesn't matter what the actual lineup is. As the team comes to bat and you see player Z is in the leadoff spot, you can either change the starting lineup (Misc -> Show Starting Lineup) or just make a note on paper since you can edit this after the fact (or even between innings which is what I do). If player Cis in the 2 hole, same thing, make the change to the starting lineup right then or make a note and change it later. These changes can be made after the game. You would only make a substitution if a new player bats in the lineup after you've gone through.
If it turns out only 9 players bat, you can either change that right then in the starting lineup (make the 10th batter have no BATTING button on) or just skip that batter every time through the order.

Please see my extended reply in my post in the enhancement requests. The short answer is that the iScore batting line up works, but is too slow in the heat of the battle. There has to be a simpler way to accomplish the same task without having to go through so many levels of menus and windows. The offensive substitution method is a good, quick way to modify the batting order but leaves a messy score card.
I hope that FTM will read my enhancement request and consider simplifying the starting line up facility such that changes to the batting order can be made while a game is in play.

That is not correct. . Phil has misspoken . There are at least two ways to not have the messed up score card
1)follow the recommend methods. If you followed the prescribed procedure intially using starting line up not substitution screen the score card would not be messy
2) use pitch by pitch editor, if you accidentally use substitution vs starting line up and have a cluttered score card. You can go into pitch by pitch editor and adjust the starting line up and then edit each erroneous substitution event and get a normal looking and accurate scorecard
So there are at least two methods to not have the 'messed' up score card.
