archiving old data and staring over?

This is totally random and not sure I posted it in the right place. My daughter will start her college season in February. I have about 4 years of high school and travel ball data on my android phone that is due to be upgraded. I will likely not be able to make it to every game and her college team does live stats and video online for almost every game, but I still like to do the scorekeeping when I'm at the games. It keeps me "in the game" and I'm less likely to criticize the officiating. Also I just like to look at the scorecard and play by play I created later to remember what happened in the game.

With all the data I've accumulated on numerous opposing teams and players, exporting and importing has become too long of process. I don't want to delete what I have and it's nice to access it on my phone, but I 'd be OK with just having it available somewhere online or on my computer. Any suggestions for what someone else would do before I try to figure it out on my own in the next couple weeks.

I did create a player spotlight for my daughter a couple years ago which I think still works so I do have that available online to store her past stats. Just hoping to start fresh this spring. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Congrats on College Ball !

The general rule you know from being active of the board over the years, is we do not recommend deleting anything.. Just use Leagues to group and filter. but alas, i can attest to some lag in import and export when your phone gets years of games. If that is too annoying.. here are some brainstorming thoughts

ever consider upgrading your phone? , or do you have a family member with a second device (android or iOS, phone or tablet.)? if you had two devices, you could easily transfer your entire data base for safe keeping on one, and then use the other to start fresh and score college games. you can then use data sharing to periodically update your master archive with new games. . you could even look to pick up a cheap android or iOS device off ebay that is wifi able but not phone enabled to download and store your master iScore data on. The data base is best sorted by device or team web site, not excel. but You can email yourself stats in excel to archive on a PC. and I would email all her past teams stats for the best archive. but even that will be incomplete as it will not have opponents.

You can use the self serve admin function to move player spotlight and team web site master from one device to another easy enough , so that is a non issue. the best thing i think is find a second device to house your master file.

My house has had smart phone proliferation, all you need is one iOS device or android phone or tablet to 'borrow' periodically when you want to add games into your master device.

Yes this was a help somewhat. Leads to a few more questions or concerns. I am due to upgrade my phone. I suppose I can figure out how to do the data share back and forth to my old phone. I would assume I'd need to keep my old phone to store the data on, but if it no longer has phone service to it, I'm going to have to figure out how that would work. Would I then have to repurchase the iscore ap for my new phone and have a new user name? Not that I mind doing that, I just wondered what hoops I have to get through. I've got until Feb 6th to figure this out. Thanks for your suggestions.

If you are getting a new Android phone you will not need to purchase again. Just log in to Google Play with the same account you originally purchased with and you can install n your new device for free. Usually with old phones you can still,set up wifi with no service. Once you have exported from iScore, the data is permanently on our servers so you really would not need to continue connecting with your new device anyway as you can pull any games you want to the new device with Data Sharing through the web and it does not require the old device (just make a note of the old customer ID and password so you have it).

@ixamnis.. worry not. this is all very routine and doable.

FTM support got to answer first .. and hit the points. but i will echo / call out 3 things...

#1) before you upgrade,
a) Register your old phone to an email (Edited: on iPhone - > option > register on Andorid register on admin web site )
b) Export your old phone data (stores entire database on iscore servers)
c) be sure to Write down your old phone Customer ID number.
all three steps a,b,c IMPORTANT for future flexibility….

#2) If you old phone can survive in wi fi only mode. bingo, you have a solution for your original question about a master data storage unit for lifetime stats (old device) .

you can store lifetime stats on old the device (if it can survive in wi fi mode without cell service), and can use your new device fresh for college years. (you can transfer college games back to master 'lifetime stats' device as you go through college). this will make exporting faster. .

If your old phone can not survive in wifi only mode, the original question you posed on having a second storage device is still an item to discuss/resolve.

however, you may find your new device has better processing and connectivity power and the long export that concerns you may be less an issue now. and you could simplify everything by keeping all your data (lifetime) on your new device.



#3) regardless of number 2.. you probably should familiarize your self with some features described in FAQs from iScore web site http://iscoresports.com/baseball/support.php

I'm not quite understanding registering my old phone to an e-mail. Do I do that on my old phone using to the iscore ap? In which case under options I'm not finding a register. Or, and I haven't tried this yet to I go into that admin website and register it by e-mail there?

One other thing I should be clear on is do I have to get an Android phone? What happens if I get an iPhone? From Support's reply, I am assuming I better stick with Android.

If you get an Apple phone, you will have to purchase the Apple version of iScore. It is 100% compatible and you will be able to transfer your data just fine... it just requires a separate purchase (as will all your apps... not just iScore).

I apologize, i forgot registering on android device is by admin web site (per link support posted) on an iPhone you can register straight from phone (Option > Register) - sorry for bad advice…

FYI - the registering process, just links multiple devices to a common email. … so you can do some administrative tasks across different devices without having to email support. (e.g. copy data base from old to new device, or re define what team is associated with a team web site subscription, etc. ).

to echo support point, you can do all the data transfer stuff i mentioned from android to iOS or iOS to android - tablet or phone. iScore has done a terrific job making data compatible across devices.

If you go iPhone route. please Purchase the Universal version of iScore. (make sure it sways universal) .. so It works on iPhones and iPads (. in case some day you get an iPad.

OK, I gave up on the new phone idea, because I didn't want to go through the life sucking experience. I was wondering what happens if I go into the admin website and make all the old high school and travel ball leagues that I set up inactive? Does that help with speed things up any? I would think it would help when I set up what leagues games and teams are in. Can I make players inactive too?

Also what is the scoreboards feature do on the admin website?
