Can't share data between devices on same admin account.

Post by tivonut » Tue Nov 26, 2013 6:23 pm

I have two iPads running iScore, call them unit 1 and unit 2. Unit 1 has been running for several months under my admin account. I recently added unit 2 to my admin account. Both are listed under the "Account" tab on the admin site. From Unit 2, I was able to use data sharing with the password to import some team data from unit 1. I've then created a couple new teams and games on unit 2 and scored them. I now want to copy those games and new teams back to Unit 1, but Unit 1 cannot access Unit 2 data. When I try to login to database from unit 1 with unit 2's ID and password (same password for Unit 1 from admin site), I get "Invalid customer ID or Password!" Unit 2 can still access Unit 1's data.

I exported both DBs before starting. Both units are listed on the admin site. However, apparently related, none of Unit 2's data (games/teams) are listed on the admin website. In fact, in the upper right corner of the screen, the only Unit ID shown is Unit 1's, even though both are registered and show up under the Account tab.

What's going on here?

On your new device, go to Options -> Admin Website, and try changing the password. Then do an Export again. Then try using data sharing to retrieve data from that account.

That sort of worked but not the way I expected. I had to create an admin account from unit 2 and sign in with its ID and password. My games were there and I was able to enable data sharing from there to get the data to unit 1. But now I have two admin accounts. I thought I could manage both devices from one account.

The Customer ID is unique to each device and identifies the device to the iScore server.

So I guess I don't understand what benefit I gain from registering multiple devices under one email address account. I can only access the primary device's data. To access data for any additional devices, I need to sign in to that device's account. Seems to defeat the whole purpose of registering multiple devices under one account. Perhaps I'm missing something?

By registering the devices to the same email, you can do complete data transfers if you would like by following the instructions here:

It sounds like you want it to consolidate databases . It does not. And should not .
IScore is not a multiuser database structure . Each device must maintain its own individual database and the admin web site is for that database.

The FAQ will explain how you can share soecifc games between devices using data sharing .

Aside .. One of the other things it enables .. Is the ability to self administer which device is assigned to which team web site ownership
