Infielder "ate up"...error??

Post by J-Man » Mon Sep 16, 2013 8:20 am

Is it an error when a ball is hit hard to an infielder and he gets "ate up" by the play? That is, it's coming hard and maybe a short hop happens and the player misses the ball...is that considered an error? Or, because it was a difficult play (hard and short hop), is it NOT an error??

this is the proverbial "Scorers judgement" ...what is "Ordinary Effort" at your level of play.. ?

to be conform with MLB official scoring rules.
- It is an error , if in the official scorer’s judgment, a fielder at that position making ordinary effort would have fielded such ground ball and retired a runner.

- No error is charged when a ball is misplayed that was hit so hard more than ordinary effort is needed to play the ball. If the ball goes in the pocket of the glove and then Is dropped, score an error if an out would have been made without the drop, except as noted in q.
