Wheelhouse

Post by Todd.Nelson » Wed Nov 11, 2009 8:21 pm

I've been throwing this idea around in my head for a little while now.

I was going to build an app that would generate/draw a batter's wheelhouse based on the location of the ball in (or out) of the strike zone when he/she swings. Pitch location where the batter tends to always make solid contact would be drawn darker than the pitch locations where the batter tends to swing but not necessarily make contact.

My plan would be to feed this information to the coach calling the pitches so that we can try to avoid a batter's wheelhouse by pitching around it (to the spots that the batter seems to favor but can never find the ball).

The problem I've been having is that I can't seem to get my OS-X VM working correctly, so I can't use the SDK to develop the app.

I was thinking that since you already keep track of pitch location (if the scorer chooses to do so), that maybe this is something you may be able to be built into iScore?

The result would be something like my son's video games:

Keep up the good work guys!!!

We are in the process of making the iScore data available to third parties in an XML format that would allow creation of these types of charts. In fact, we are very close to supplying the data to a couple of groups that do the type of thing you are asking (and much more). The idea is that we will be making all the detailed data we are collecting available for deep analytics for those customers that are interested in that type of thing. This would be beyond the scope of iScore itself (we are trying to keep it useful and usably for/by the masses), but we can see add ons being created either by us or by third parties to use the data in many ways.

Thank you for the suggestion.
