Universal version VS iPhone/Pod only

Hello all, I have read many questions posted on here about the two versions but I'm still not clear which one to buy, I'm left wondering why anyone would buy the iPhone/Pod one if the other is universal?

I do primarily want to use this on an iPad but will have to use my iPhone sometimes (I have an iPhone4, the universal version says optimized for iPhone5), assuming it works for the iPhone4 I will need the sharing function to merge the games from both devices to make the complete season.
*** I do not own the iPad that will be used, if I buy the universal app for my phone can I load a copy to the iPad? or do I need to buy 2 copies, in this case the iPhone & universal version.

OR, should I just simplify and do it all on my iPhone? If so, should I get the universal version or iPhone version? The flexibility to use it in the future if I get an iPad seems like a good idea, but is the iPhone specific app better somehow?

Buy the universal.

The other version only exists to support those that already have it (from before there was such thing as universal apps).

New users should buy the universal version.

My question is why you didn't just update the original iphone version to be universal. I do not appreciate having to spend another $10 now that I have an ipad.
