Adding players after game started

Post by photojon » Sun Nov 11, 2012 10:38 pm

We played a game this weekend where the opposing team had two players join after the game had started. When they arrived, the coach informed us that he was adding them to the roster but did not want to roster bat. We hadn't batted through the order yet, and by going to "show starting roster", I was able to add the two new players and set their batting status to "no". Unfortunately, later in the game, when the coach called out the substitutions, I was not able to do any offensive substitutions so I assume iScore was not aware that I had added the two substitutes. Am I doing something incorrectly or is this a known problem/limitation?

If you add players to the lineup by going to Misc -> Show Starting Lineup, and set the players to Batting = NO, they should be eligible as Offensive Substitutions for the game. If that is not working for you, please let us know the type of device you are using and the version of iScore, and we will see if we can reproduce what you are seeing.

I haven't had an opportunity to try it again but here is what I did on a 3rd gen ipad running latest iOS and latest iscore.

1) created starting lineup for both teams. visitors have 9 payers, home has 12. Roster bat all players on both team.
2) midway through lineup during top of 2nd inning, two players show up for the visitors. I add them in misc->show starting lineup and set their batting to NO as they are substitutions.
3) Bottom of 2nd inning, visiting coach informs me that he'd like to substitute the two "late arrivers" for two others in active lineup. Unfortunately, I am not able to see those two players in the lineup. I tried to do both defensive as well as offensive substitutions (top of next inning) but there are not visible.

Thanks

I can not replicate the problem on iPhone, (i do not have an iPad 3 to test ). but on iPhone and iPad1, it seems to be working as expected,

When you click on a offensive or defensive icon to pull up the substitution screen (black background) at the top you should have an Offense|Defense Buttons (green). And you should see all persons listed on the roster, batting or not for substitution. If you are not seeing the OFFENSE|DEFENSE choice on the team with some players batting =no. . Please reply back.

Yes, this has been what I have done in the past. I was surprised when I wasn't presented the substitution screen but then I thought that perhaps since the initial roster only had 9 players that iScore was being smarter than I was and not allowing me to substitute. But when the two new players got added after the game started, I thought that perhaps the "flag" didn't get correctly set telling iscore that there are now "non batting" substitutes available.

I would correct a mock game to see if I can get it to repeat but I really don't want to keep extraneous games and if I recall correctly, FTM doesn't suggest we ever delete games or players.

You can delete mock games. We suggest not deleting real games / real players because inevitably users will want to recover things they have deleted. A mock game would not fall into that category.

@ photojon... i tried to replicate your scenario on the iPAD 1 but could not make the error repeat .. if you can reproduce that would be insightful.

sorry for the slow reply. I created a mock game and was not readily able to reproduce the problem. I then created a 2nd mock game and scored it by following the "play by play" of the same game that i had problems with and again could not replicate the problem. I guess it was just a user error on my end. Thank you again for your help and timely customer service.

This response was helpful for me. I had a situation where I had left a player off the team roster. Even adding that player to the team roster did not make him available as a mid-game substitution. It was only after adding him through Misc -> Show Starting Lineup that I was able to sub in that player. I needed to undo the last play to get the Misc button, and then re-entered the last play. The substitution I did in Pitch by Pitch.
