Highlight Plays
Highlight Plays
I was watching a replay via Gamecast of a recent game (which the parents LOVE, by the way) and was simultaneously thinking back on the actual plays, themselves, when it hit me what was missing.
When we're watching live at the field, the centerfielder might make a spectacular ESPN-highlight catch to end an inning. But, the viewers at home might just see "Batter flies out to CF". They don't know and I don't have time to type in "Spectacular catch by Mays!"
So, my suggestion is this:
• We hit "Out" as normal
• We hit "Flyout">>"Medium-Fly Ball" as normal.
• Then we get to the screen where we select the players involved in the play. I suggest adding a "Highlight" button in the corner of the screen, which we can tap prior to tapping the player in question. On a flyball, we could tap "Highlight-CF". On a groundball, we could tap "Highlight-3B-1B" (for a great play by 3B) or "3B-Highlight-1B" (for a great play by the first base chick). Or even "Highlight-3B-Highlight-1B" if there were great plays on both ends.
This way, when the play-by-play is broadcast on the Gamecast, it says something like "Highlight catch by CF" so that viewer knows that it wasn't just routine.

Re: Highlight Plays
That is what notes are for... you can add a note to any play and it is highlighted in the iScorecast.

Re: Highlight Plays
Right. That works great when acting as a dedicated scorekeeper with no other duties during the game. In my case, I don't have the extra time to scroll over to notes, type in details, click Save. I'm taking pictures or video of every play simultaneously with keeping score. Sometimes I'm calling pitches, etc. at the same time I'm keeping score. A quick-tap button would at least indicate an extraordinary play for the "live" viewers and then, post-game, having those plays already denoted in the play-by-play would enable me to make more detailed notes after the fact.
Just a thought. If most people are scoring only, without the additional duties, then it obviously would not go very high on the priority list. But, hey, if I don't request it, I'll never know!
Thanks again!

Re: Highlight Plays
One thing we do intend to do is make the notes more accessible on phone devices. On a tablet (iPad or Android tablet), notes are a single tap, not hidden behind other things. If the notes were always one tap away, would that address your concern?

Re: Highlight Plays
Absolutely! That's perfect.
Re: Highlight Plays
One idea that I think might help would be to have some 'Quick Notes' that the user could predefine. Maybe swiping the notes button or something could show us our predefined list. I like to make notes like 'Bunt Attempt' when there is a foul bunt and 'Throwing Error'/'Fielding Error'/'Dropped Throw' on errors to let myself know what happened. I know there are a lot of notes I would make routinely if I had them predefined. I don't feel I can make a lot of them and I'm not trying to multitask like a Danger is attempting.

Re: Highlight Plays
We have had the idea of predefined notes on our enhancement list for a while. We will use this feedback to help adjust the priority of when that should be done.
