Edit player map

Post by skip314 » Tue Sep 25, 2012 5:00 am

This is sort of an obscure situation, but it's still an odd quirk in the interface that I think needs to be addressed. I was importing game data from another device's web database and I did not notice that one of my player maps was incorrect. Player A was being mapped to Player B. I did the import and then noticed my stats for Players A and B were incorrect. I deleted the game, exported my data (to reset everything) and then tried to import again. Now Player A was still being mapped to Player B but there was no way I could change it. I tapped everywhere in the vicinity of that player but could not change the map. It was locked-in from my history based on one bad import.

I eventually found a work-around by using a third device. I imported the game on the third device and then imported from that web database and was able to edit my player map. I will be more careful in the future on the player map screen, but this seems like an odd limitation. i'm not sure why we are not able to edit the player map after one import.

The reason For not allowing edits is because you can create a circular reference and then wind up with a single player mapped to multiple players which will cause lots of problems.

Ok, but don't you think there should be a way to reset to link between two devices? Somehow delete all reference to a certain device and start fresh. After one mistake I now have a permanent incorrect link between two devices and will never be able to import data directly from that device again? That seems a little severe IMHO.

If we allowed you to remove links, you could create circular references which could put you in a situation that is impossible to recover from, and put iScore in a situation that it can not map the data at all because it would need to map one player into two, and then possible back to itself again.

If you have a bad mapping, you can do an Options -> Export and email us with your customer ID and which player it is, and we can remove the mapping for you.
