Importing single game stats via CSV

Post by photojon » Sun Sep 16, 2012 2:08 pm

I've been a huge fan of Iscore and have successfully evangelized and converted several folks who were either using paper or other scoring apps. Unfortunately, the one person I have not been able to convert is one of the people who fills in as scorer for me when I'm not able to make the games. The app she uses has fairly detailed stats and I can copy and paste them into an excel spreadsheet thereby creating a CSV formatted file. In the past, I have used the technique listed on these forums to import "season to date" stats for multiple CSV files which results in a single entry.

I am wondering if there is a methodology where I can import individual games from a individual CSV files and edit the game date, location, league(s) etc. We play in several different tournaments and divisions and make extensive use "leagues" to control our stat collection so the "season to date" approach wouldn't be practical.

Thank you.

We allow importing of CSV stats as described here:

http://iscoresports.com/baseball/kb/faq ... _stats.php

But it is intended for season stats, not individual games. (This may be the technique you were referring to.)

The only other approach is creating a new game, and manually overriding stats for the game -- it is not automated however.

What would be the drawback (or behavior) of importing one game following the "season stats" model? And then a month or so later importing another single game following the "Season stats" model?

When you import season stats, it overrides the previous season stats. As long as you accumulate your external data, you can re-import the data again a month later (or however often you like). We just don't have an import option for a game at a time.

Thanks for the update. I agree that isn't a viable alternative. Would you please add "importing game stats from a CSV" to your feature request list. I think it would save a lot of users times of either having to manually enter a game, or even use the abbreviated work around of setting up a mock game, having each pitcher throw one pitch, end game and then edit the stats list. I would envision doing this from the admin website, not the iPad (or scoring device)

Although iScore is absolutely the best app for scoring a game and tracking individual and team stats folks will continue to choose other apps that our out there and when one of those folks is your scoring substitute the workarounds to keep your data integrity are difficult.

Thanks for your consideration
