Hi,
I scored my first game last night and everything went well until I had to make a defensive substitution. For our league, not everyone bats, i.e. just the players on the field. A defensive substitution should also replace that player within the batting lineup. And, vice versa, i.e. replacing someone in the batting lineup should replace them on the field. Therefore, within both lineups, I marked only the first nine players as batting.
We made a pitching change at beginning of second inning. When making the substitution, on the scoring screen, I clicked on the pitcher (number 3) and selected number 5 as his replacement. I expected this to replace number 3 with number 5 within the batting line up. But, because that did not happen automatically, I clicked on 'Misc' and selected show starting line up, to make the batting line up replacement.
Evidently, this was incorrect, because when looking at the play by play and the cumulative stats, number 3 doesn't show up at all. Number 5 (the substitute) got credit for all pitches and plays. Is there an easy/correct way to do what I need to do?
Thanks,
TW

Re: Correct way to make substitutions
Offensive and Defensive substitution are made independently. When making a defensive substitution, if you tap the "Offense" tab, you can make both at the same time.
When you changed the player in the Starting Lineup screen, that is exactly what you did --- changed the Starting Lineup.
To fix this, go to Game Manager, select your game, select Pitch by Pitch, tap the Game Starts event, tap Edit next to Starting Lineup, and set the starting lineup back to what it should be.
Next, scroll to the pitch before the batter should be substituted and tap that event, tap Edit next to Substitutions, and sub in the offensive player.

Re: Correct way to make substitutions
Thanks for the reply. I was able to correct the starting lineup/stats using your suggestion. Big help.
When both coaches made multiple substitutions at the same time, however, that's when the wheels fell off for me. Is there an easier way to assign a sub for both a player's defensive and offensive (batting lineup) position in one click? Two subs for each team = 8 clicks in a very short amount of time (me standing with both coaches at the scorer's bench).

Re: Correct way to make substitutions
iScore is intentionally designed so you do not have to do that. Make the defensive changes when you see them in the field, and make the offensive changes when you see the player at bat. Things are optimized for "scoring what you see" as opposed to requiring inside knowledge of what is going on. Many people scoring a game do not have that luxury.

Re: Correct way to make substitutions
Understood. You might want to consider a configurable option that would allow for this behavior, however. I would bet that your app is being used by a lot of team score keepers. In that role, we are responsible for making sure that the other team does not make an illegal substitution and that our team bats in the correct order, either of which results in an out. If we are simply reacting to what we see, we can't do that.
Other than this suggested improvement, the app is great!
