iinherited Runners

Post by brian_oshea » Fri May 25, 2012 6:07 pm

Are runners inherited by a relief pitcher charged to the relief pitcher if they subsequently score? I thought that they were charged to the pitcher that put them on base.

I scored a game tonight where the relief pitcher entered the game with the bases loaded. All three runners scored but 1 was on an error, the other 2 on RBI's by batters. 2 of the new batters that she faced, subsequently scored. The pitching summary shows the relief pitcher being charged with 4 earned runs. Should it not be only the 2 batters that she faced that subsequently scored? I realize that she should be charged with allowing 2 inherited runners to score but I thought that these 2 runners were included in the ERA for the original pitcher. When watching an MLB game the announcer always says the original pitcher is responsible for the runners on base when he leaves the game and his pitching line cannot be completed until we see what happened to these runners

The original pitcher is responsible for runs that pitcher puts on base.

Yes, iScore automatically handles substitutions and which runs are credited to which pitchers based on the rules of baseball.

I am new to using iScore, but it does not always seem to get it correct when it comes to deciding if runs are earned. Maybe I just don't understand, though. Or I entered it wrong...

A runner who had initially reached base on a single was later safe at second because of an error during a fielder's choice and eventually scored during the ensuing onslaught of base hits that often follow these things. He was the first of 5 runs that scored that inning with no more errors. iScore called them all earned. I thought it should have been 4 earned and 1 unearned.

If you have a situation where you think iScore got the calculation wrong, you can do an Options -> Export and email us at support@iscoresports.com with your customer ID and let us know which game/inning it is and we will review iScore's calculations.

You can always override the stats as well by going to Game Manager, selecting the game, tapping Pitching Stats and reducing the pitcher's Earned Runs by tapping the value and entering a new value.
