Hi --- any input on how this would be scored?
Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. The batter lays down what is intended as a sacrifice bunt to squeeze home the runner at 3rd. The pitcher fields the bunt and instead of making the out at first, he catches the runner at 3rd halfway down the line towards home.
The runner at 3rd ends up scoring after a brief run-down due to an error, but the question relates to how to score the batter/bunter's at-bat. I originally had it down as a fielder's choice, but have doubts about that because this actually lowers his batting average by adding an at-bat but not a hit. He was asked to sacrifice bunt, so it seems it should count as a no at-bat.
So is it scored as a sac bunt, but safe at first?
Thanks!

Re: Sac bunt or fielder's choice?
It is a fielder's choice:
MLB 10.08 Sacrifices
...
(c) Not score a sacrifice bunt when any runner is put out attempting to advance one base on a bunt, in which case the official scorer shall charge the batter with a time at bat; and
