data sharing lag time
data sharing lag time
Data sharing is about to drive me kookoo. I run android on my phone and tablet. The majority of games are scored on my tablet. I try and try and try to get my phone to get the data from my tablets database and it just won't do it. There is always something wrong. I figured out I needed both devices registered to do it correctly.
So, today, I am trying to update data from my tablets DB. I just did another "Get from Web" on my phone. I've made some subtle changes to things in my tablet in the past few minutes. I look for the data I'm trying to get on my phone and it isn't there.
I'm not a complete buffoon.
Is there a lag time for data to populate into the web/database? If so, what is that lag time?

Re: data sharing lag time
About a hundred times. The only way I can get ALL the data to show up on my phone that is identical to what is showing on my tablet is to force close iScore on my phone, delete it from my apps, reload it and then import it. It is kinda ridiculous. Of course, I willingly admit that this is all my fault somehow. But, I cannot figure out what in the world I might be doing wrong.
When I do a force close/delete/reload, then it pulls in all the data from my tablets database. But, other than that, it simply will. not. work.
This makes me very, very skeptical about actually scoring a game on my phone. When I do it on my tablet, it works great and I have no concerns.
Do you know a way to get this kicked "upstairs", Mark? I'm a very serious "wanna be" user and I really need this to work between my tablet and phone seamlessly.
Help.

Re: data sharing lag time
Maybe you already have the games on both devices? Once a game exists on a device, data share will not show the data as being available to transfer again. Some people pre-create all the games for the year (we do NOT recommend doing this), and if you then transfer the pre-created game to the second device, it will not appear as available to transfer when you do data sharing because it already exists on the device. If this is what you are experiencing, you can delete the game from the device you are trying to copy to, then do the data share again and the game will be available for selection (since it no longer exists on the device).
If that is not the issue you are facing, and you can give us more details, we can try and help more.

Re: data sharing lag time
I just rechecked it. It just won't do it. I finally just went in again, force stopped, deleted all data, clicked on Data Sharing, told it to Get From Web, and re-imported all the data for the I don't know how many-ith time. There's got to be a step I'm skipping or something. I'm literally terrified to try scoring a game on my phone for fear the data will never get over to my tablets database.

Re: data sharing lag time
Yes....I absolutely have my games preloaded/precreated in order to save time. So, are you telling me if I delete all my pre-created games, that should resolve the problem? If so, that explains a LOT. I could continue to "see" the games as they were scored on my tablet, but I could not get the final score to show on my phone.
Re: data sharing lag time
Can I have the other teams/rosters pre-loaded/pre-created? Is it just games that this is an issue with? If so, I can delete all future games that I have already created. But, it's been a huge, huge timesaver to have them already there in case I get to the game close to start time.

Re: data sharing lag time
You can leave the teams all preloaded. It should only take about 30 seconds to create a game when the teams already exist.
Just delete the game you are trying to transfer from the device you are trying to transfer to, and then do the data sharing and you will be able to transfer the game again.

Re: data sharing lag time
So, alllllllll this time, it was a simple matter of have games pre-created. Unbelievable. Is there any...thing....out there, in the iScore world, outside this forum, that says to not do that?
At this point, doesn't matter. That seems to have been the issue.
