Editing games
I have to enter games into iscore after our game is complete. Sometimes I need to edit the play. Problem is if I forgot to move a runner it will not let me. It is grayed out. Same thing if I forgot to call the runner out. In previous versions ANYTHING could be changed in the edit screen. Am I missing something? Please help.
Re: Editing games
not in previous versions of iscore. you cannot make game altering changes like that.

Re: Editing games
Since you are entering post game, as you are entering, you can always us Undo immediately and go back and fix the mistakes as you make them. You do not have the live game pressure that may prevent you from using Undo at the time. It should be pretty quick to undo, fix the issue, and re-enter the information after that point.

Re: Editing games
Well, that's the problem. I don't realize there is a mistake until its too late. Why is it disabled. We should be able to edit anything. Trust me I do use the undo and redo. Is that an option that will ever be available?
Re: Editing games
You want to be able to edit anything, but that simply isnt possible in baseball.
Many events in the game are interdependent on each other. Allowing ANY change can result in illogical situations.
Electronic score-keeping requires some degree of accuracy and attention. While some things can be edited, others cannot. This may be seen as a drawback to this type of score-keeping, but there are many ways in which it is superior.

Re: Editing games
Well, I disagree. I have had this app since it was .99 before ESPN bought it. It has came along way with many many suggestions from people like us. Editing a play would not change the game, if you had the same options during the play it self. I try to keep it during the game but it can be difficult to do while coaching. I have even bought a parent the app. But we're human and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like the option to have this enabled to full edit. inputting a 7-9 inning game is tedious and mistakes are made wether forgetting too advancing a base runner or calling a single a double which you can do but can't move the runner, or call them safe or out. It can be done and would only correct the issue. full edit should be enabled or an option for those like yourself who feel it would alter the game. Just my take...

Re: Editing games
I don't disagree that more editing options would be a good thing. As you noted, it has come a long way over the years. With each release, FTM has allowed more edits.
But to say, you should just be able to edit everything and anything is something that easy to say, but impossible to do (without massive, and possibly unintended, repercussions).
How do you change a player's at bat from third out in the inning to a base hit without affecting everything that happened in the next inning and beyond?
Trust me, I know how easy it is to get distracted during a game. But there is part of me that appreciates the fact that the app forces you to pay closer attention to the game.
We all make mistakes, and I am in favor of being able to fix them as much as anyone. If anything, we disagree on whats feasible. But, hopefully we will see more capabilities in this area (in fact, I'm certain we will)...I just don't think it will ever get to the point of "able to edit anything."

Re: Editing games
Mark, Thing is it would not change anything or alter the game at all by editing a play. Remember it is pitch by pitch where you edit from. It only changes what happened during the pitch you select. Let me give you my example why I started this post, 2 outs 2 balls 2 strikes, runner on 1st and 3rd. What I noticed after I entered the game from my stat book was, 5th pitch was a passed ball. Runner on third scores, runner on 1st advances to 2nd. I forgot to advance runners. Should be an easy fix to correct the game right? With full edit I could fix my mistake that happened during THAT PITCH, which would CORRECT the game. The next pitch strike 3 inning over. So Im only fixing the play from the pitch. Doing this could not change anything else, unless I go into a different pitch. It only affects the play you selected. Why is this blocked? It corrects the game. You can go in any pitch and change anything, but advancing a runner? Its not about having to pay close attention, like i said im entering this info off my score book at home. I dont have the option to keep my ipad while on 3rd base. Its illegal in California to have electronic divices on the field including cell phones. I hope the site admin Fwds this post to hopefully has this issue fixed. Thanks for your input. I hope you understand what I'm complaining about.

Re: Editing games
We get this request several times a year, and we are always working on improvements to the post game edits. There are many things that can already be done as seen in the link Mark posted earlier.
There are also things that cannot be done because of potential ripple effects. Yes, your specific example does not happen to have a ripple effect, but what if a couple pitches later you did have those same runners moving around bases or being marked as out. Suddenly you have a situation where an edit scored the run, but a few pitches later that same runner is marked Out. How to handle that?
This is a very difficult thing to handle in order to keep game consistency. We have to "look ahead" to see what ramifications could potentially happen as a result, and prevent changes that could ruin the consistency of the game.
We are adding more and more edit capabilities that do not ruin consistency, but we will not be introducing edit capabilities that can ruin the consistency.

FTM responded well...I will just add...your example is different than what you said earlier in this thread when you said "We should be able to edit anything". That was specifically what I was taking issue with.
I'm not saying there aren't situations that could be added to the editable list. Like I said, I would love to see more options in this area (who wouldn't?). FTM would love to allow more, too.
There are just deeper ramifications than many people think about. Maybe they maybe don't apply to their exact situation, so they don't see the potential problems - but they could, and that's what FTM has to protect against.
If past performance is any indication, you can bet that FTM will continue to expand this area and continually improve its product.
They also have the ability and willingness to fix some things that end-users cannot. If you find a situation that you cant fix, email their support and ask them if they can. If they can help, they will.
