A New Season
I'm getting ready to start work on our 2012 season. I started with Iscore in 2010 so I have our team name as River Valley Rebels 2010, River Valley Rebels 2011 and I am adding a new team for this year. Is this the best way to do it or should I just have 1 team name and merge everything. I noticed that when I setup a new team it didn't have the players #'s from last year. Any suggestions on the best way to start a new year? And when I purchase a new website do I create from scratch or am I able to modify last years?
thanks
Mike
thanks
Mike
Re: A New Season
This question comes up each year it seems, and you will find some folks reuse last year team and some create a new team.
I have done both and prefer the new team each year approach (plus a new league for 2012).
That way last years team is there for reference,

I change the name of the team to make it in the list at the top and just use leagues for each season. Then I can view hits from all seasons, but the new game will just write to new season to keep the stats separate.
Re: A New Season
I've been thinking about this as well. In 2011, we had tons of "guest" players because we were transitioning up an age group and it took a while to settle on our final roster. So, on our website, all those players with just a few at-bats are listed and it's difficult to just focus on our core 10 players.
For 2012, I'd like to create a whole new team/website without the excess player data, but I'd also like to be able to see the 2011 data. However, it seems like I'd then be paying for TWO websites since it would be set up as two teams, even though it's the same one. And, in my case, I'm actually keeping up two sites already so it would end up meaning I'd be paying for four sites for two teams.
The only way I can think of to do that is to just make 2012 a new League, but then I have the same issue where I've got 25 non-roster players intermingled on my website data. I previously made the suggestion that we be given a way to either hide inactive players on the web data or perhaps move them to the bottom of the statistics list if they are inactive. That was partially addressed on the app, itself, with the "Inactive" feature on a recent update. If it could be taken one step further and implemented on the website, that would take care of my issue.

Re: A New Season
Danger..
I pay the team web fee for my 'new' active team each year and let last years expire. NOTE: .all the data from last year always remains on the device. (fyi The old site will still be out there for a while too, as FTM does not pull them down ASAP). And of course the players history is also all on your device, and can filter able by leagues. If you never delete games or players, (takes minimal space) you always have your history and can see it or email/excel stats at any time..
Also, new last year was the ability to designate 'pick up' players as inactive on your team roster and hide them from web site..to clean things up..( you may have missed that new feature addition as it come out late in season if I recall).
Any way, I basically by a new web site each year instead of renew.. Angels2010, Angels2011, angels 2012 Etc.

Great answers - thanks for your help
Re: A New Season
Thanks, OhioTex. I knew that we could now drag players to "Inactive" status on the device, which is an awesome feature, by the way. I didn't realize they could be hidden on the website. I didn't see how to do that. Is that done from the device, itself, or is there a way to do that on the website?
If they can be hidden on the website, I'd rather do it that way. Then, it's a simple matter of creating a "2012" League. I don't have to worry about how long FTM will keep the old data available (it's great that they do that, but without knowing for sure that it will be there for 5-6 more years I don't want to risk losing access to it). It's also easy to keep "career" stats that way and, also, to track down scorecards against teams from the prior year. I also don't have to worry about dropping my iPod in the lake and losing all the data.
Thanks again for your help!

Re: A New Season
that is a good point - i wonder what would happen if i merged my 2010 and 2011 teams on my device?
Re: A New Season
caution: Merging teams, is permanent one way ticket.. . they become commingled and I found i did not like that. so i keep them separate year by year. once you merge, you can not un merge. if you don't like the combined approach.
to be clear, iscore lets you keep your data on your device "forever". buying or not buying team sites does not enhance or detract from the ability to have your complete data base safe and available. if you loose your device, (and have regularly "option exported" after every game as we recommend) then FTM has a back up of your complete database on their servers - this is great if a) get a new device or b) loose your old one, or drop it in a lake. your data can and will outlive your device. That comes with the software and the stellar FTM support, not an extra charge, and is independent of team web sites.

Re: A New Season
Correction ! My apology.
I misspoke in my above post (excerpt below) regarding the "inactive player" functionality. I was wrong.
Dragging a player to "inactive" in the Team Manager Roster, does not hide them or their stats on the Team Web site (or device stats). Instead dragging a player to "inactive" status (in team manager) means they will no longer be included in the default starting game line up when you create a new game (in game manager). That is the extent of the current functionality of "inactive players" ( and does not help the main question posed on this thread on how to handle new season team web sites) -- > sorry for the confusion.
the idea to use inactive player designation (or something similar) to hide "former/pickup" players on team web sites was a user suggestion that was not implemented by the developers .
given number of users may be facing this question again come spring, Perhaps the developers will revisit.. I think the idea is relevant to this thread.. Create a way to separate "former/pick up players" that will allow them to be optionally hidden them from stats and roster pages on team web sites.
If designated as a"former/pick up players" they would be grouped separately on roster / stat pages as former players or optionally hidden from view. That is the type of functionality that a high school team could use for example to retain the same web site url year to year and accommodate new and graduating players. Similar use for a club team that adds a few and looses a few each year.
Cost wise it would be a wash, you still need to renew a team site year to year -- the difference would be the url would remain the same year to year.
