PlayerId on CSV export

Post by tjans » Tue Nov 08, 2011 11:51 am

It would be handy if the Player Id was included in the export of the CSV. That way, I can take that CSV and use it to import into a custom database and not have to worry about duplicating players and coming up with my own unique identifiers.

Along that same line, the ability to export players and their Ids as well so that working with the data in our own custom database is possible.

Thank you for the suggestion. It is not likely we will be including our internal IDs in any of the reporting. They are used internally by our code, and are subject to change at any time. We do all kinds of mapping of IDs for things like data sharing, merging of players, merging of teams, etc that can change our internal IDs, and we do not expect there to be any external references to them.

You can come up with your own ID creation technique to make user IDs from your players. One common technique used even for MLB players is taking some number of characters from the last name of a player, some number from the first name, and possibly appending the jersey #. If you want to track players across teams with different jersey numbers, you can come up with a cross referencing system, or you can make your IDs not include the jersey numbers.

Another option would be to include your own IDs on players in the Last Names if you don't mind them showing up on reports (as you are suggesting). So you could have the Last Name be something like "Smith (12345)".

No problem, I understand. I was considering doing something with the team name first name, last name, and year or something...I just thought if it was a potential update in the future I wouldn't need to. Thanks for the reply...
