Substutions

Post by brian_oshea » Sun Aug 21, 2011 1:26 pm

I don't know what I have been looking at but I just realized, that once the game has started if you don't know the #'s of the defensive players and you enter a number for, say 3rd, it shows it as a substitution. Yes technically you are substituting a player # for no number, but it is not a player substitution. Could not, when no player # is indicated, when a number is entered, that it merely substitute the # for the blank and not show it as a substitution?

When you are changing the number, are you changing it in the starting lineup screen?

No I am doing the input of the defensive # using the usual substitution, by taping the defensive position and selecting a players from the players shown as available, as I would for, say a pitching change in the 6th inning.

If you tap the position and change the number of the player iScore sees that as a substitution. To do the defensive lineup when they take the field use, Misc. starting lineup to change/add the numbers. This will not be seen as a substitution but as if you knew the defensive lineup from pregame.

It seems to be a lot of taps (misc>starting lineup>defensive player #>position>done>done) rather than imputing the # as you would do for when it really is a player substitution.

You only change the starting lineup when you are editing numbers or changing the lineup for some reason. It does take more taps but as danmcc says, if you change something from the sub screen, then iScore sees it as a sub. Adding numbers for players after the game is started has to be done using the starting lineup. I don't like the extra taps either, but it does make sense.

I think that I'll use the normal substitution method and ignore the substitution comment in the pitch by pitch. Thank for comments.

@brian_oshea.. I have to jump in with dan and petro guy, I highly encourage you to try and use and get accustomed to using the misc> starting line up approach for updating the name and jersey number of opponents, .through out the dataset iscorecast and play by play things will be more straight.. then at end of game you can use (copy line up to roster) in case you see the team again some time. My two cents.

I do do the copy to register for each team which gives me sweater #s but necessarily the correct defensive positions as both the order of the batting list and defensive positions can change game to game. At any rate the season is almost over. We only have the u18 Eastern Canada final next weekend in Prince Edward Island and the use of iScoreCast will be extremely useful to patents and friends not able to go to P.E.I. I'll try the proper method of putting in the defensive positions and see how I make out.

Another option is to just do the subs as you have been during the game. After the game for post edit, collect the data for the subs, use misc. starting lineup, then edit out the subs. I know it is still the same taps but it is after the game without being concerned about game flow.
