Lost all data... Potential huge bug?

Post by garfieldx » Mon Jun 20, 2011 3:19 pm

Hi all, newbie Android user here (used it on iPhone for almost 2 years, 1 month on Android):

I'm using iScore on my LG Optimus T (T-Mobile) Android phone, and came into a potential huge bug yesterday. Here's a rundown of what happened:

I have 4 games (let's just say at 8am, 10am, 2pm, and 4pm), and was unable to attend the 1st game at 8am. A parent kept score the old fashion way (pencil and book) for the 1st game.

I arrived on time for the 2nd game at 10am, and kept score with iScore. After the 2nd game ended, I tried to input the 1st game into iScore so I would have complete stats electronically. Unfortunately I ran out of time, so I left the 1st game at 5th inning, and started a brand new game for the 3rd game at 2pm. After I finished the 3rd game, I continued to the 4th game at 4pm.

After the 4th game is complete, I exited iScore and headed home. And here's when the potential bug happened:
when I got home, I tried to continue entering data for the 1st game (which I left off at 5th inning). When I launched iScore, I got a totally blank white screen for a few minutes and nothing loads (usually it only take seconds for iScore to show the main menu). I exited to home and forced stopped iScore, then relaunched it.

iScore started successfully on 2nd launch, but all my teams, players, games, and leagues are gone. Went to the Android Application menu, and it shows that iScore storage only has 60kb.

So a quick recap:
Launched iScore, started and completed 2nd game
Started 1st game, exit to iScore main menu at 5th inning
Started and completed 3rd game
Started and completed 4th game, exited iScore completely
Launched iScore in attempt to complete 1st game, blank white screen and never reached main menu
Forced stop iScore, Launched iScore again; main menu loads in a few seconds, but all data is lost

2 questions:
Any idea what happened, and how to avoid this bug in the future?
Any way to recover my data? I exported my data 2 weeks ago, so I was able to import those back. However, last week's tournament (5 games) and yesterday's 4 games are lost. Those 9 games appear in the Scorecasts tab of my.iscorecentral.com, but they occurred after my last export... is there anyway to import those?

Thank you very much, any help is appreciated!

This is the first time we have heard of a "blank white screen" and no loading. Data is written to disk immediately any time you score any play, so there is never a case when it should not be stored. The only thing we can think of is an issue with the device itself. You should check to be sure there is enough storage space available on the device.

We always recommend Exporting after every game scored (even if it is only partial) so that you have a backup of the data on our servers in case the device is lost, damaged, or stolen.

Yes, you can recover games that have been iScorecast. Go to Options -> Data Sharing -> Get From Web Database. When it asks for Customer ID, enter "sc:XXXXX" (be sure to include the "sc:" but not the quotes, and replace XXXXX with the actual customer ID from your device. For password, enter the password from your device as seen on Options -> Admin Website.

This will allow you to Data Share the "iScorecast", so if you had iScorecast enabled while scoring the game, you should be able to retrieve everything with this method.

garfieldx, when you restarted iscore after the crash did you check to see which leagues were checked. Your games may still be there in the "all" league.

I checked... there's nothing at all, all data gone.

FTMSupport, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!
The sc:XXXXX is a life saver, as I am able to import all the iScorecasted games (except for 1*). I didn't know about this option before and it really saves the day. Now I will export after every game to avoid any data issue in the future. Really don't know what happened, my SD card has more than 3GB left so it's not a storage issue... maybe it's the device as you suggested (should've downloaded the app on my T-Mobile G2 instead of the entry-level Android phone Optimus T).

*All the iScorecasted games imported without a hitch, except for 1 that keeps giving me this message:
Import Result: Unable to load the data from the server

I logged into my.iscorecentral.com and the game is there.

If you want to email us directly at support@iscoresports.com with your Customer ID and which game you are having trouble importing from the iScorecast, we can take a look on our servers and see what is causing the error.
