Quick links to earlier games

Post by webshowpro » Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:45 am

Now that the season is we under way, we've locked horns with some teams several times. It would be really nice to have a link within the current game to stats and scorecards from the prior match ups.

I've been asked numerous times through the last couple of tournament what happened and who pitch against us in earlier match ups.

Currently it takes a long time to scroll through the long list of games, and too cumbersome to enable / disable leagues on the fly.

On the subject of playing teams multiple times, it would be nice to have extended stats or culumulative "series" stats when you play a team in the same league more than once.

you can tap on a player at bat and get to their player card, or tap on the Ball/strike area and toggle through spray charts, to see current game and lifetime charts.

iscore is fundamentally a scoring app, and turns scored games in to quick statistics, it provides some scouting/analytic help, but is not to be confused with the type of advanced real time analytics you suggest.

.. you may want to investigate add on products like EDGEHQ.com..

My real point is the data is all there already. This is not analysis, its merely easier access to historical data within the context of the current game. He player card does not tell me who pitched last time, who made errors, etc.

Coaches ask me these questions, and i cannot really answer them because the existing game list is very cumbersome. especially in the middle of a game.

It likely would not be difficult from a development stand point to provide a drop down list of all games that match the two playing teams to the existing game data. The code exists and there is relatively little potential to add bugs, since the list would be filtered off existing data, and use standard controls which would then load existing views.

As a developer myself I may get frustrated more easily than most folks, when Im using software ans see something like this that seems ( to me in my opinion ) , to be a natural progression of existing code. Again, Im not being critical I think FTM is doing great, just making a suggestion based on the types of information I'm being asked about during games.

I understood. When you investigate Edgehq.com you will see they do that (drop down box comparisons) and more. I also understand the price difference. And the platform difference.
I also understand that coaches ask these questions. But thought you woul like to know, not likely to be something FTM focuses on in the near term. FTM has previously posted their focus is on developing the scorebook apps for sports (baseball, basketball, ....football.. Other) on iOS and now (phone amd perhaps tablets).... They have elected to deferr the anlytics (as they classify them) to a later time, the have tried to partner with other providers to use iscore as a front end to more analysis..

To me this is not an analytics request. There are already links to the existing games in the app - they are just cumbersome to use. I'm not asking for a new function. It's a ui enhancement to optimize navigation - by simply adding links within a specific game to similar games.

Leagues can handle your series stats.. Create a league for games against x. Place team x and games vs x that league. Then enable that league and you will have 'series' stats.

I will let FTM respond on Analytics,

These sound like last minute requests from the coach which really should be asked well before game day so game strategies can be formulated. Do you have a team website? That is an excellent way for the coach to review prior games and statistics. You may also want to give him access to the admin website., but this is not as useful as it does not have league groupings. I usually print all the hitcharts for teams we are facing in a tournament and send them to the coach the week prior. I don't think your coach is maximizing the data's usefulness by trying to get you to answer questions during a game, when really your focus should be on scoring. I personally don't like people to even talk to me during a game, and usually the coach only asks me where we are in the opposing team's lineup. He's already done his homework on pitchers, etc.

I provide stats in advance for league games and pool play in tournament. I do create scouting reports and team previews using the current game data, it is a process, especially for large tournaments that takes hours.

However my suggestion for quck links to existing games is for tournaments but when you don't know who you are playing until a few minutes before the game starts. Creating leagues certainly will work, but they are way to cumbersome to use for quick lookups immediately prior to thegame and during the games. I already have dozens of leagues to work around limitations.

I LOVE this application a have recommended every weekend to other score keepers; however, I have been getting increasingly frustrated by how difficult it is to grab historical prior game data. data that is already available but requires too many clicks, turning leagues on and off, etc to get that data.
