First I've seen this.
Double into left center.
Throw from left field to cutoff in shallow left.
2nd baseman fakes that he received a throw from cutoff and places a tag on the batter/runner.
No out obviously but second baseman was trying to deceive runner.
Ump awards runner third base due to the fake tag.
Unbelievably, I couldn't find a button in iScore to touch fake tag since it happens so often.
Is this the right call from the ump? How is it scored? I just gave the runner a stolen base but probably should have used balk.

Is a fake tag illegal? I've seen a fake hit by pitch in MLB fool the ump (and work.)

A fake tag is legal in MLB, but I believe it is illegal in HS play....

In HS, a fake tag is treated as obstruction, and is treated the same as OBR Type b, except that one base is always awarded, even if runner is returning to the base. A team warning or ejection may also occur. Rule 8.3.2b, e.
Looks like the ump called it right. On iScore, you would award the runner 3rd via obstruction, I'd guess.

We had an obstruction play last weekend but there's no obstruction button. What is the correct way to score this?

I believe you are correct, there is not a safe by obstruction button. there is catcher obstruction button on in-play for the batter-runner but not a safe by defensive obstruction button for the runner ... this has been brought up before and on FTM radar screen/ list for consideration..
so you are left with what button to use for now.. What happen to runner x? .. Choose what ever feels best for you (sorry) and make a note.. (Held up probably the least descriptive on score card and perhaps best here, leaving it to notes to describe more accurately)

The correct way to score it is to give the base via an error on the position that obstructed (E4). Rule 10.12(b) states "When an umpire awards the batter or any runner or runners one or more bases because of interference or obstruction, the official scorer shall charge the fielder who committed the interference or obstruction with one error." The advance is clearly on an error.

good point to bring up the assignment of error in stats too.
FYI - MLB 10.12 (c)
10.12 Errors
An error is a statistic charged against a fielder whose action has assisted the team on offense, as set forth in this Rule 10.12.
....
(c) When an umpire awards the batter or any runner or runners one or more bases because of interference or obstruction, the official scorer shall charge the fielder who committed the interference or obstruction with one error, no matter how many bases the batter, or runner or runners, may advance.
Rule 10.12(c) Comment: The official scorer shall not charge an error if obstruction does not change the play, in the opinion of the scorer.

Good stuff, thanks all. I may never see the play/call again in my lifetime but I am fully prepared now.
