Text Updates

Post by fastpitchfan » Fri Mar 25, 2011 3:21 am

Hi, this is my first post----what a great app!!!

As a suggestion, the ability to text updates during the game would be great also - similar to the way you can email updates. I have some friends who don't use smart phones and/or can't get on-line at work when I'd be sending updates. So I have to type out the text (among the 1000 other things I have to do between innings). This would be a big help.

Thanks

You should be able to use Twittercast, and your friends with smartphones can follow the twitter account and get text messages from there. That is one of the reasons Twitter was limited to a small number of characters --- so the tweets could easily be sent as text messages.

Excellent, I tried it but it only tweets the inning, outs, score etc. Is there a way to get it to tweek an inning re-cap including the players at-bats etc.? Also, how do I get people to sign up for and receive the texts from twitter? This will be great if it works.

For people to receive the texts, they would need to create Twitter accounts and follow you on Twitter.

We plan to add additional "tweet options" in the future, but there are several limits we have to deal with. The "140 character" limit is the obvious one, but Twitter also imposes daily limits on users for how many tweets they can send a day, so we can't just go crazy and send everything. If you have suggestions on different specific things that would be interesting to Tweet that fit in the 140 character limit, let us know.

ah, ok I didn't realize you had those limitations so it makes sense to me - basically I text one of the dads between innings the updates that you already do plus I let him know what his daughter did at the plate etc.
