Double play or triple play by lineout

Post by promark747 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 11:34 am

Let's say there are men on 1st and 2nd with no out. Lineout to shortstop, who then steps on 2nd and throws to 1st for a triple play.

If I score this as:

Lineout
Tap SS and 1B (who touched ball)
Runner at 2nd out (Double Play)
Runner at 1st out (Triple Play)

It shows up the in the scorecard as a triple play for the batter, but the boxes for the runners show them out by FO (force out? even though it isn't).

However, if I score it like this:

Lineout
Tap SS and 1B (who touched ball)
Runner at 2nd out (Left base early)
Runner at 1st out (Left base early)

Then it shows the runners out by LBE in the scorecard but there is no mention of a triple play for the batter.

Just wondering how most people would score this type of double/triple play.

(edited..meant 1st and 2nd)

You said runners on 2nd and 3rd.. Did you mean bases loaded?

Sorry...brain cramp. Meant 1st and 2nd (or bases loaded would apply as well).

Thanks

Out
Line drive
tap location
6-6-3
What happen to runner -2nd? Out, triple play
What happen to runner -1st? Out triple play

If on defense cheer wildly, if on offense cry out loud..

The trick is to give short stop two taps. (To get him two put outs.)

The stats give ss 2 put outs and one assist and gives 1b a put out
The scorecard actually orders the outs correctly.
Batter 1st out, runner on 2nd 2out, runner 1st 3rd out
(if was a ground out, score card may order the outs indirectly, b/c no quick play swipe out triple plays)
Batter gets line out, does not get a GTP because lined not grounded into triple play
(if was grounded in to a 6-6-3, then would get GTP)

There is often some language confusion on LBE and force outs..

LBE - was originally put in iscore specifically for softball to account for when players are out if they leave base early before pitch thrown (no lead offs in softball)..

There is not a unique out designation in iscore for failure to 'tag up' or failure to 're touch' a base in a caught fly or line drive ball situation..

Though perhaps not technically a force out, I tend to consider it close enough to have FO on score card and in the case of triple plays that is what happens here.

Okay, thanks. (Actually I will be able to use LBE in my league this year because the kids are not allowed to lead off.)
