Data Entry Mode

Post by webshowpro » Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:03 pm

This is a great app! Thanks.

I have some technophobic parents, and also I'm not crazy about having my ipad on the bench. What I would like is to keep score the old fashioned way, delegate the pitch charts to another coach, and then after the game at my leisure enter the game data - upload and share it.

I also am in the process of entering old scoresheets - it is very tedious and time consuming.

What I would like is a "data entry" mode that is more free form. Not based on a series of events, but rather based on entering data.

This would make entering old scorecards easier. For example - Instead of flipping back and forth in the old scorebook, I could add each teams half innings all at once.

Thanks again!

Thank you for the suggestion. We will add it to our list for future prioritization.

Just as a little background... iScore Baseball has been optimized for scoring games live as they occur. That is the intent of the application. Other use cases may be possible, but our primary focus will continue to be making capturing the game live the easiest possible experience for users. We are always re-evaluating priorities based on customer feedback, so if many users start asking for this type of functionality, the priority will be moved up.

Thank you.

Thanks that makes sense.

Perhaps another approach to solve my problem instead: how about publish api that could be used to automatically / programatically enter data. Then I could write my own import feature to get the old game data in.

An API would also let 3rd party apps do things like the roster import, etc. An API could also help me pre-fill fielding positions prior to a game. At the young age, we move guys around a lot, and usually have a position matrix made up before each game. I wrote a tool a couple years ago to help with it, you can see the link for an example. http://huronvalleypatriots.com/lineupmaker.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - it would be nice to be able to import that matrix right into a line up for a new game...

Anyway thanks again!

We actually have exactly that feature (the preset positions) in our next release. We will be releasing it very soon.

An API approach is interesting, but will have a very limited audience as well. We actually do have an API for getting data out of iScore (called data feeds), but we are not sure we will be adding a way to put data in. It requires a lot of support, and for a product that is $9.99, we have to keep things as simple as possible to keep support issues to a minimum.

one of the key features of this app that differentiated it form other stat packages is the 'score what you see approach'

One thing you may consider if you have an iphone/ itpuch. Score it yourself too. seriously in (youth ball) it is one hand useable in the dug out and as a base coach. Really. Fairly straight forward, I always have pitch count at my finger tips. I also have a scorekeeper in the stand keep a paper book, because league requires. I use that as a tool after game as a second set of eyes and refine /edit iscore at home before I export and update stats.

The positioning of players is the most time consuming thing and can be hard to do and coach, but with the reported pre positioning matrix in the next release, that will be a snap.

Just an idea
