double play?
double play?
Batter hits a pop fly to 2B who then throws to 1B to force the runner out who had left the base when the ball was hit. I scored batter out-pop fly-2B, then what happened to runner? Out at first-force out. This does not show up as a double play against the batter. Should it? Thank-you.

Re: double play?
Batter did not ground into a douple play, hence not showing up in his batting stats as a GDP. Per MLB guidelines the stat that is tracked is grounded into double plays (GDP) (or tripple plays, GTP). an arqument can be made that the runner could have saved himself. not always the case of course, but that is the consistent way the stats should treat the situation..
Re: double play?
did I score this correctly? 2B gets the PO on the first out, but there does not seem to be any stats for the 2nd out. 2B threw to 1B. I would have though 2B would get an assist and 1B would get the put-out.

Re: double play?
The way to enter this play would be:
Out, Popup, touch location, Next, 2B - 1B (4-3), Done, Out, First, Double Play.
This will now show Second Baseman with a Put Out, an Assist, and a DP and the First Baseman with a Put Out and a DP.
Batter did not ground into a double play, so there is no GDP against the batter.

Re: double play?
That did the trick. Just seemed strange to hit two players on on pop fly out, but the stats worked when you hit double play. Thank-you.

Re: double play?
excellent post by FTM,
RE: the correct keystrokes in iScore to enter the situation: man on first, batter lines/pop ups to second baseman who doubles up the runner at first before he can get back.
The way FTM instructs, the score book, offensive stats and defensive stats all are captured. This has sometimes been misunderstood, so wanted to flag for instructional purposes.

Re: double play?
Ok, now how do you score a DP where 1st catches fly and steps on bag (runner didn't tag-up)?

Re: double play?
The sequence would be:
Out, Pop Out, Location, Next, 1B, Out, 1st, Double Play
Fist baseman gets 2 Put Outs, 0 Assists (both outs are unassisted), and credit for a DP.
Out, Pop Out, Location, Next, 1B, Out, 1st, Double Play
Fist baseman gets 2 Put Outs, 0 Assists (both outs are unassisted), and credit for a DP.

Re: double play?
It's unrelated to the question being posed, but I wanted to mention that the second out is not a force out. Force outs are *only* outs thrown to bases where the runner is obligated to go (due to succeeding runners). The out at first base is "left base early" not 'force out".team mom wrote:Batter hits a pop fly to 2B who then throws to 1B to force the runner out who had left the base when the ball was hit. Re: double play?
"Left base early" actually does not have anything to do with this play (at least in fast pitch.) In softball, the runner is out if she leaves the base before the pitcher releases the ball. I don't think that is the same as getting a runner out who failed to tag a base when the batter hits a pop fly. May be different for baseball.
