Adding pitcher to roster after game start

We are scoring our first game on an iPad right now watching a recorded MLB Game. We used the starting lineups shown at beginning of game. New pitcher comes in to start 3rd inning. We had not had him on team roster when we created the team and roster at game start. Exited out of game and added him to roster. Went back into the game and tried to make pitching substitution. Second pitchers name not showing up to choose as new pitcher. What is proper way to do this?

You have to add him to the Lineup for the game, not the Team Roster. The Team Roster becomes the default Lineup for a game when a new game is created, but once the game is created, the Lineup is independent of the roster. On the main scoring screen, press Misc -> Show Starting Lineup, and then tap Add Player and select the player you have now created. When the player you want is not listed, you can also create a new player.
