Copy roster to new team

Post by CoachBrockhoff » Tue Apr 26, 2011 6:07 am

We are about to finish out HS season and go on to Summer ball.

I added the summer teams (and leagues) and want to copy the HS roster to the new summer teams.

Is there a way to do that?

No "automated" way,.. have to do it manually.. either on the device itself or through the admin web site.

ADMIN WEB SITE..
if you have not tried adding/editing rosters on the admin web site, http://my.iscorecentral.com you may want to give that a try. you can cut and paste and add multiple players there. To do that of course, you must first Options > Export, then make edits, then Option > Import to pull updated data back into your device.

on the admin site..
After you option export from your device, go to admin site http://my.iscorecentral.com , log on with device id and password. then go to the "Team tab"

On team tab, you will see the "Add a team icon" (plus sign over baseball and bats icon)

On team tab, click the edit roster icon (spread sheet icon under options) to edit the roster of the desired team
On team edit page, two icons to note:
the upper right icon (plus sign and single helmet) is to add a single player,
the bottom left icon ( plus sign and multiple helmets) lets you add multiple players
on both options, pre select the leagues you want the players assigned to.

On team tab, you can also eidt the team, using the Edit team link under options, check mark all leagues that apply etc.

Depending on how much data entry you need to do, the admin web site can be a big time saver.

I went to the Admin Site and went to the HS Team.

I highlighted and copied the roster and pasted it into Word.

Switched the last name and first name around.

Copied that roster and pasted it into the "batch of players" on the Summer Team.

I had to go through and put a single space between the first and last name, but a lot easier than typing the whole roster again.

@ CoachBrockhoff

I hope you remembered to OPTION> EXPORT from your device first and then OPTION >IMPORT after the changes.

by the way, since you mentioned flipping names, back on your device, you may have "two versions" of the player. please check, If you do, you may want to use the player manager, merge function to combine.

for others reading..
If you are doing just one new team, with predominately pre existing players, you may find it easier to create a team on the device and add the players one by one using the add player button and player pick list. (this will avoid any concern on unintended duplications of a player) and can all be done from your device without internet and web site.

If your player list is long and cluttered, a de-clutter trick is to go through the roster on your old team (from team manager, Team, Roster ) and assign each player to a special league, "my players", then enable only "my player" league when adding players to the new team, that will filter out the extra players from your pick list.

I did export before making the changes and then imported them back.

I did have two versions of the same player. In some cases I even had three.

I have merged all players and hopefully I'm now ready for summer ball.

I'm going to use the "my player" league in the future to add players to a new team.

I keep a couple leagues just for players, depending on what league/tournament affiliation they are in. For example, one league for Little League players, one for USSSA players, one for fall ball players from different cities, etc. It's a little more cumbersome initially to set up and to assign players as teams are created, but later on, when you create new teams, you can just also turn on the relevant league to select from just those players and not the entire player list. You just have to remember to add new players to the appropriate player leagues when you create them.

Nice idea for 'association' leagues...Also remember you can assign players ( just like games and teams) to multiple leagues it does not have to be 1:1..

Moderator note: this re quote has been edited (by OhioTex), some minor glitch in BBs keps putting "screen protector" marketing in this quote. it is, not intentional by me or the re quoter,
