Scoring Tag Out on Extra Base

Post by johnemc » Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:30 am

Hi, new to iScore and enjoying the app despite some learning pains. How would you score this?
- runner on 2b, 0 outs.
- batter hits to SS who throws batter-runner out at 1st.
- runner from 2nd rounds 3rd and is sent home.
-1st baseman throws home where catcher tags out runner.

I select
-Out, Ground Out, touch location, 6-3-2
-What happened to runner? Out, Home, Double-play

On scorecard I see DP6-3-2 for batter and FO near home for runner. Stats appear as expected.

But this wasn't a force out. Instead, I had hoped to see DP6-3-2 and TO.

Is this possible or at least to not show a FO? Or would you have scored it differently?

Don't say "Double Play" for the runner, select "thrown out" if that's what you want. Either way stats will be the same; it will just affect the scorecard.

Won't that keep the fielders from getting credit for the DP? I don't think the batter should get a GDP, but the fielders should get credit.

I think the stats will be the same, but FTM will need to weigh in. iScore does know that multiple out were made on the same play and so I believe still will register the DP.

The only time a Double Play is counted in defensive stats is when the Double Play button is used.

There you go. So I guess you have to decide if you want the stats or the scorebook to be most correct. Personally, I would choose the stats.

Unfortunately on double and triple plays that are not on the quick list (swipe out) that is often the dilemma perfect scorebook or correct stats. Most choose stats.

Until reading your replies, I hadn't noticed that the batter received a GDP when he really didn't deserve one. I'm not sure that I can get the stats right for both Offense (no GDP) and Defense (1 DP for each of 3 players with 1 DP total), so I'll opt for the stats being right for my team (the Offense) and not be concerned about the scorebook. I'll also add a note to the pitch-by-pitch.

Perhaps the next version's overriding of stats will help and a future correction to no force outs noted if a runner has no other runner directly behind him.

Thanks to all.
