Really enjoying using iScore, it's the best baseball scoring app I've used.
I have a couple of suggestions. They are both aimed at speeding up things. In the heat of the moment in a game, things need to be done as quickly as possible so nothing in the game is missed.
When making a substitution, sometimes all the slots on the team roster are already used and I need to add another. To do that, I have to:
- exit the substitution screen
- Tap the Misc button and select the Starting Lineup option
- Tap Add to get to the players screen
- Tap Add again to add the new player
Then I have to get back to the substitution screen to put the new player into the game. That's too many taps, too much time. It would be great if I could add a new player, with all the defaults, with one tap from the substitution screen, maybe a button that takes me directly to the add a new player screen, and then use that player as the sub when clicking Save. Or even a button that would add a player to the roster following the rules for the default first/last names and automatically make him the sub. I could then go back and change the name/etc when time permits.
While scoring the Giants/Cubs game yesterday, an SF batter was hot by a pitch and was replaced. I substituted the new player on the offensive side but forgot to make the defensive change. At the end of the inning, the batter who had already left the game still showed in the defensive lineup. Obvioulsy, that's not possible. I was able to make the defensive change at that point but it would be nice if, when a batter is replaced, iScore asked if the new batter should be slotted into the same defensive position as the old batter. ANother possibility might be at the end of an inning, check for lineup problems like this and prompt for them to be fixed. I've seen similar actions in other scoring apps.
Thanks for the great app!
Pete

Re: Improvement suggestion for substitution
If you are using an Apple device, there actually is an "Add Sub" button on the sub screen that allows you to add a new player to the game without having to go to the starting lineup. Most of the time people will have the complete team roster entered prior to a game and will not have to do this anyway, but the button is there in case you do not have the whole roster entered. We will be adding this button to a future release on Android.
We do plan to add an option to do both offensive and defensive substitutions at the same time. Keep in mind that iScore is used mostly for youth scoring, and that in youth scoring, there are often "free substitutions" rules in place where offensive and defensive subs are separate activities that can take place any time. Also many times you do not know as a fan watching a game whether a player that goes in as a pinch runner is actually taking that player's place on defense ... many times a runner will come in who happens to be the fastest runner, then a defensive substitution will take place and you would not know that until the players are in the field. This is another reason we follow a "score what you see" approach. When you see an offensive substitution, you make that change. When you see a defensive change, you make that change in iScore.
As noted, we do hope to continue to improve the process for all situations however, so thank you for the suggestions.

Re: Improvement suggestion for substitution
Thanks, I'm on Android so explains why I don;t have that ability. Look forward to seeing that added to Android.
Understand on scoring situations being different for different types of games. I only score MLB games so a little bit blinkered on that front. Understand also that I don't always know the defensive situation when an offensive substitution is made so doing what I suggest could not be automatic.
Thanks for listening.
