Try exiting out of iScore completely - go to Home Screen on your device, double tap the home button, press and hold the iScore icon in the bottom tray until the "-" appears, and press that (not the "x" as that would delete the app). Then start iScore again and see if your internet connectivity returns.

We have done that and also done a soft reset. (Home button and on'off button held until apple logo appears)
We also have noticed that after scoring for a while (about 1 1/2 hours or a game), the next game scoring screen can become very slow to react to finger taps. Yesterday, in an attempt to correct this, we tried "airplane mode" setting (we don't use iscorecast) - it didnt work
It was after we went off the airplane mode after the game that we are now having the export problems.
any other ideas

We have not heard anyone else report issues like this. We have seen a lot of people having issues with iOS6 in general, and usually a reboot of the device helps. Here is a thread on Apple's forums about iOS6 issues:

Are you using iOS6? It seems Apple has some things they need to work out.

Could we uninstall and re-install iscore on the ipad without losing the data on games scored since our last export?
(as a trial/error possible solution)

If all of your games have been iScorecast, you would be able to recover games since your last export from the iScorecasts. You can also do an iTunes backup. We do not understand why exporting would not be working for you however as we have not had any other customers having issues.
You may want to try turning on Airplane Mode, then turning off Airplane Mode, then trying the export. If you have 3G connectivity from your iPad, you may want to try exporting with only 3G as well.

as posted on other threads, this seems to be an iOS6 update issue.

Is it possible to hide the WiFi icon so it does not appear on the playing field?

We do not have an option to hide that icon - it is used to control the iScorecast on/off, and see the status of the iScorecast.
