Issues for a newbie.

Post by ixamnis » Mon Jun 06, 2011 9:48 am

OK, I went live with iScore this weekend and also set up a team website.

Here's my list

1. Trouble with starting line ups staying in place. Our coach changes the line up quite a bit from game to game. I kept entering a new line up for each game and then found out when the game started it was using ou line up from the previous game! So I was trying to reenter it on the fly!! The only way I found to save it and have it in correctly when game started was to create a game and then create a line up in Game Manager for our team, then copy it back to roster for our team and then make sure I hit save on everything. Now the only issue with that is for the opposing team I could only create a Quick Roster in Team Manager. Am I missing seeing something in the line up sheet that shows up in Game Manager after you hit Play but before you go into the Picture of the field recording screen of the game?

2. I ran into a play where with runners on first and second and no outs, a ground ball was hit to the second baseman, she tagged the runner out going from first to second and then threw the ball to first for a double play. I ended up with the tag out showing on the scorecard as the second out instead of the first. (I'm already aware there are some issues with recording double plays... add this one to them.)

3. How do you score a caught foul tip on the third strike?

4. How do you score an out because of a foul bunt on the third strike?

5. Is it worth anything to know whether the shortstop made the error fielding the ball or throwing the ball to first?

6. On a dropped third strike where the batter makes it safe to first.. I get D3P3 on my score sheet?

7. I could not get the game locations to save on the admin website. didn't bother to see what the team website showed.

I probably have a few more, but those are what I can remember from comparing iScore to my paper book.

I do want you to know I figured out on my own by looking at this forum to email the scorecards to myself so they would show up on the website!! :-)

I'm running the droid app and using it for fastpitch softball if that makes difference.

1. You are correct about the Quick Lineups. They are created in Team Manager. Also, once you get the names in the team roster, that is the default lineup used for each new game you create for that team. You can change the roster order in Team Manager to change the lineup or change the lineup in the game and then copy the lineup to the team roster. I use a combination of these depending on how often the manager is changing the batting order.

2. This is one of the known double play issues that have been brought up. Changes to this are on the radar for FTM but we have no idea of when or if changes will be made.

3 & 4. Both of these are just strike outs swinging in the statistics and are recorded by iScore as such. If you want more information to be recorded, use the notes feature to update. Currently, the notes do not show up on the scorecard, but this is also on iScores todo list.

5. Again, this is a known issue. Currently, there is no way to record an error as fielding or throwing. Also, if a fielder drops a throw from another fielder that would have been an out, there is no automatic way to record the assist the fielder throwing the ball should receive. Manual stats editing is required to accomplish this.

6 & 7. Not sure.

Is there an easy way to add a note during play or do you have to wait until the game is over and go to the pitch by pitch and put in the note then?

yes you can add notes while scoring, depending on your device, flick the top scoreboard screen to get to notes, or click the icon

on #1.. It is very manageable once you understand the difference between team rosters and game line ups. when you create a came it copies from the team roster, from then on, changes are independent.

Regarding double plays, what is the downside of scoring a double play as follows?

1. Situation: runner on first, no outs.
2. Grounder to short, 6-4-3 double play.
3. Score as follows:
a. In play, fielder's choice
b. 6-4-3 handled the ball
c. Runner on first is Out, Force Out
d. Batter is Out, Double Play

Is this better, worse or the same as the various other ways of entering double plays?

It is not a fielder's choice, so you are giving the batter credit for something that they did not do. In Play, FIelder's Choice is giving them credit for reaching first base which they did not.

The easiest way to handle the standard 6-4-3 is to slide your finger up across the out button, and select the 6-4-3 Double Play option their.

I understand about the quick swipe option but I don't understand the rest of the comments.

1. It is in fact a fielder's choice in that the shortstop has the option to throw to first base to retire the batter and let the runner on first reach second base safely, but did not take that option. Fielder's choices are the fielder's decision and have nothing to do with the batter.

2. As I mentioned in the original post, I am scoring the batter as out at first base, not reaching safely. "Out, Double Play". This question will be asked by the program (what happened to the batter) ... it defaults to the Safe screen but I change it to Out and then select Double Play.

Is there something about iScore that will not accept this entry correctly? (Statistics or something else?)

Fielders Choice is a play for the batter reaching first base safely. In your example, the batter did not reach first base safely, so it is not a Fielders Choice.

Had the batter been safe at first, then yes, it would be a Fielders Choice with a force out at second. In your case, you can use the swipe for the 6-4-3 double play, or you can use:

Out
Ground Out
SS-2B-1B
Out
First
Double Play

If for some reason you want to give your player a Fielders Choice, that is up to you as the scorekeeper, but it is not correct for the scenario you are describing. What you are describing is a player hitting into a ground out double play.
