I was scoring the Rangers / Diamondbacks game today on the radio, and when they made the first pitching substitution, I did what I thought was the right procedure. Hold down number on the pitcher's mound, it brings up the roster, and lets me sub in the player. That worked. Or so I thought. I saw the new pitcher's name (Michael Kirkman replacing Colby Lewis).

Then I noticed that while Kirkman was shown as being on the mound, he wasn't in the lineup above (see the red circles). I thought that was odd, so I manually went in there and replaced the pitcher, but then I noticed that my pitcher was Kirkman from the start of the game!

GAH! What happened here? Since this was radio, I had no facility to pause the game to fix the problem, so I had to stop scoring the game. Why did this happen? Did I miss something with the proper procedure to substitute a pitcher or something?

The short answer is . Learning curve. Not a bug.

You have to manually make both the defensive and the offensive substitution. Changing the defensive position does not 'automatically' pull him from batting line up (particularly helpful for AL teams with DH)

In the future, just keep scoring, Worry not, you can fix missed substitutions during or after a game.

While scoring live, when the pulled player's spot comes up to bat, tap the batter icon, up pops the offensive sub screen, and insert the right batter. Great for double switches.

Again score what you see ( or what you hear over the radio)

After the fact, even now, Gomel pitch by pitch editor, find the place in the game and make the sub...
