How do I fix a game when I have "unknown" batters?

Post by rayboston » Sat Jul 24, 2010 6:58 am

Hi,

Last night I accidentally had 11 batters on my lineup. When I got to batter 9, I didn't notice that iScore had credited the 10th batter with the next at bat (instead of wrapping around to the top of the lineup.)

I resolved the issue at the game by changing the starting lineup to remove the extra batters. Then I skipped the two batters whose at bats had gone to the wrong people and resolved to fix the thing later.

Now I have two at bats given to "unknown" batters and two skipped batters. I've tried editing the game in pitch-by-pitch, but that only has a substitution function, not an edit function where I can rename the batter.

Is it possible for me to fix this game and get a clean scoresheet? Here is the game database:

Thanks!

Ray, there is a thread on here somewhere with a similar circumstance. As I recall the work around was to substitute player 1 into player 10's spot, player 2 into 11's spot, etc. Plan B is to print the scorecard and rescore the game.

I was afraid that Plan B was the answer.

I really think it would be great if they had a warning when you have more batters than your options say.

Ray, seems like a good suggestion, this situation comes up with some frequency. I am sure FTM can add it to the enhancement list. If you want to find the work around with substitutions I think OhioTex posted it. He is a magician with work around fixes.

We saw the request in the other thread for the warning... the problem is we don't have people enter a "number of batters", only a "number of fielders". If you guys think it is useful to have a "number of batters" option, we can add that as well, but it just becomes another setting you have to remember to set instead of just setting the players that are batting to have Batting = YES. If you all feel it is a worthwhile addition, we will put it on the list.

On second thought, setting a number for batters probably isn't as good an idea as I initially thought. Number of fielders is pretty consistent, however in any given weekend our lineup could have 9, 10 or 11 batters depending on circumstances or the coaches mood. Having to change that setting all the time would be a pain.

I'm still a big fan of an MLB-mode that would automatically watch that the scorer is following MLB rules. That would included 9 batters and having Pinch-Runners and fielding replacements automatically inserted into the batting order, perhaps with a warning the first time they get up to bat.

As we start adding "preferences", this would be a good one.. we actually have it on our list (not called "MLB Mode", but essentially that would be one preference).

Ray,
dan mcc was right there was an earlier post that describes work arounds to get stats correct without re scoring, but scorecard becomes a mess.... If you want stats and scorecard perfect need to rescore. Lots of tips also posted here to make that process not so bad..

The reality ..in iscore, you really need to pay attention to the batting order first time around to set the number of players batting correctly .... Cleaning up is a headache. This is one that getting it right first time is just easier..

Yup.

The problem was that the two batters were way off the bottom of the screen, so I didn't see them. And some guy was talking to me while I was getting the batting order off the wall. He was very excited about the app, but couldn't see that I was trying to concentrate.

Ah well. No big deal.
