Passed Ball ERA Glitch

Post by RoundingThird » Fri May 22, 2015 6:34 am

I'm not sure if I'm just wrong on the rule or if this is a glitch of some sort. The scenario: 2 out, only runner is on 3rd and on the pitch we have a passed ball in which the runner scores. My understanding is this shouldn't count against ERA and at this point iscore scores it no earned run. However the next batter walks 2 pitches later and iscore changes the stat to 1 earned run. Is this correct since the walk had nothing to do with the score? Thanks.

With a runner scoring on a passed ball, it will be treated as unearned unless a subsequent event would have scored the runner anyway, then iScore will update it to an earned run. The rule on earned vs unearned is replaying the inning as though no errors had occurred. In this scenario, a passed ball is treated the same as an error.
