Duplicate numbers in the lineup

Post by atf » Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:24 am

I frequently run across teams that have multiple players with the same jersey number. It happens in tournaments when a baseball organization merges two or more of their teams to play in a tournament. It seems that iscore does not recognize the duplicate number, even though the player's name is unique. Is that correct? Is it done intentionally? I tried to use 11a and 11b but that field only accepts a numeric value. I know that teams should be better at this but yesterday, the team we played had 6 players with duplicate numbers (2-9s, 2-11s, 2-14s) and I had to use 91 ad 92, 111 and 112 and 141 and 142. Is this my only work around?

You can have as many players with the same jersey # as you want. It makes it confusing to know who is who in the field since you only see the jersey #, but iScore handles the stats fine. And when assigning positions, you will always see the player names as well, so assigning players to positions should not be a problem.

Jersey numbers must be numbers, not letters, so your second workaround should be fine if you need to distinguish the numbers in some way.

I found various problems when I entered a line-up with duplicate numbers. That was a while ago, but with version 2.0. I can't remember the details. I believe one problem was that when I got to the position in the line-up with the 2nd person with the same number batting, the lineup "wrapped around" back to the first player with that number. I haven't dared enter such a lineup again, and I do like the other poster did and use an additional number on the end of the duplicate. My suggestion would be to apply extra testing to these duplicate number scenarios. Thanks for a great app!
